Hi guys!

Where would be a good place for me to start looking for shoes? Am looking at those in the ~$150 range and preferably of modern design.

Thanks in advance!

For $180 u can consider the edetal kempt range. Designs are fairly safe n sleek (if i may interpret your definition of modern). This is assuming prices have not changed from about a year ago.

Where do you get edetal at such price points? I just purchased an oxford that I selected off the shelf @ $350.

If the kempt range is still being sold it oughta be in store, albeit not segregated in an obvious fashion. Try asking the SA.

With that budget its probably aldo/ecco/geox range. If you are not too bothered with the construction you should be able to find something.

How is the Kempt range different from the regular RTW range? When I was at the store I was simply informed that everything off the shelf is ~$350

It was either blake stitched or glued/cemented construction. Can't recall. Either way, not goodyear welted. I had the impression that kempt was intended for the younger, funkier sort of crowd - there were some interesting materials and colors chosen (e.g. I've got a pair of camo corduroy slippers that unfortunately aren't gentle on my feet).

There are a few kempt series. Some were driving loafers, funky camo or embossments. 1 particular series was dress shoes, oxfords, derby, single monk, etc. Blake stitched and supposedly lower grade of calf leather than the $350 RTW range, hence the price diff.

Perhaps that was a one-off series not available on regular basis. Fwiw i got a pair and leather quality wasnt too diff fr the RTW gy welt (both were pretty mediocore imho), but st least u are getting calf leather.

The Kempt range is Blake stitched instead of Goodyear welted.

Go to their website and go through the look book to get a clear idea of how they look like. There are in fact a few series.

So the RTW range is calf leather with goodyear welts. What makes you say they are inferior, and are they in the same league as Carminas?

Based on personal experience.

Edetal rtw retails at $350 and carminas at least $500 if u got a good deal, diff league if u ask me and i believe lirahs share the same view in some earlier posts.

Me too. Carminas are double the price before the Euro dropped.
I have one from each of the maker, and there is a distinct quality difference.

For its leather, Edetal don't even match the English makers of the same price points.

Any recommendation for English Shoes which are the same price points as Edetal?

Loake 1880, barker professional collection, herring shoes, duggers

Non english but can consider: meermin

+1 for the Loake 1880 in the Capital last. True to size, good first pair of serious shoe for beginners. Should be able to get less than $400 including shipping, thus no need to pay GST.

Barker professional more modern looking, but personally the leather didn't feel as good compared to Loake 1880. The 1880 leather is softer.

Just in from Ed Et Al.

10968538_891095334288516_2339161837437404671_n.jpg

Dear friends,

Come join us as we celebrate early the Lunar New Year! The awesome folks at Auchentoshan whisky will be deploying their mobile bar, serving up variants of the fine liquor such as the American Oak, Auchentoshan 12YO and the Auchentoshan Three Wood. Wholesome canapes will also be served, prepared lovingly by Tim's Fine Catering. Millenia Walk has also kindly sponsored the event space right outside our flagship store, so there will be plenty of room to mingle and enjoy yourselves!

Besides the food and drinks, we have also prepared a short demonstration of the gentle craft of shoemaking by one of our expert shoemakers at around 7:00pm. After that, an Auchentoshan ambassador will make a short presentation of the whiskies on offer.

Strewn around the event space are uncoloured leather shoes of our creation. Please feel free to use the tools available on hand to decorate them as your fancy strikes!

Last but not least, we have also prepared special offers from our partners such as Cumulus, Goodgoods, Mr. Bulli & Sons, Pimabs, Nana & Bird and Only Brown. Remember to ask for your privilege Red Packet when you come for the event!

We do have one final surprise in store for our guests, but which I'll keep under wraps for now.

See you guys soon!
