Thanks. I have been thinking of Alfred Sargent Moore for my next shoe. Or sticking with Carmina (but going for cordovan wholecut).

But the killer attraction for me is the Saint Crispin's Adelaide.

For the price of a pair of StC, you can get both the AS Moore and Carmina shell cordovan whole cut.

Of course the StC is in another league... On this, would like to get a poll/feedback on your choice if given these 2 options with a budget for shoes of say $4K, which would you choose and why:

3 pairs of StC/EGs vs 6-8 pairs of carmina/C&J/AS

Pretty sure some of u can throw up some other options and those are welcome too. Let's go!

Saint Crispin's lasts attract me alot. Price wise, they are not as premium as what some people feel. For one, they are cheaper than Berluti.

Supposedly the fit and finish is also impeccable.

If your intention is bespoke for either brand anyways, then I would suggest doing your research now on which brand would probably better deliver a product that appeals to you more e.g. price, leather choices, signature features etc. Factoring your personal overseas travel plans could also be relevant in terms of likelihood of accessing these brands beyond the upcoming trunk shows.

No reason not to visit both trunk shows regardless.. For one, there lies a jerkish shopping opportunity for 1 of the brands.

Perhaps you'll end up getting a pair each and can give us a nice review on the experience and product from each brand in the near future!

I would probably go for both trunk shoes.

If I didn't remember wrongly, KS quoted $3k for Spigola bespoke. That's last year. One can only hope the prices don't revise upwards despite the cheaper yen.

Paging Thundermarch :s22::s22::s22:

Maybe I'm biased, maybe I'm just plain unlucky that time.
But AS is absolute crap compared to Carmina. Looking back to posts about 6 months ago on this forum. I posted pictures of an absolute excrement pair of AS Moore with warped scrotum leather all over the shoe. Sure, oak bark tanned soles. It doesn't make up for the crap they sent me. In Paul Sargent's own words, there was "nothing wrong with the shoes".
AS is also a good 100 odd bucks more expensive than Carmina. Ask me this question of AS vs Carmina and I'll choose Carmina any day. I've got about 30 odd pairs of Carminas and I wear them all the time. My AS Moore is right where I left it. In the fxxking shoe box.

Wongpk I think its more of a case that d3n did not properly qualify his statement.

I'm not too familiar with bondwelt is but it appears to be cemented construction with decorative stitching from what I've gathered online.

Maybe you can clarify what bondwelt means?

"Fine Italian Calfskin" is as much a signifier of quality as "Genuine Leather". Quarter, not even half lined shoes is probably indicative of cutting corners. They shoes descriptors seem to be throwing around a lot of fancy terms that don't really mean anything.

I'd avoid like the plague if I were you.

Why not consider Carmina burgundy museum Adelaide. There's a MO going on in Styleforum for Simpson last.

D3N is not wrong... It is probably cemented or glued (or maybe blake stitched but I see no sole stitching)..and the giveaway is in the use of a bondwelt.

Why?

In the words of Bengal Stripe, a "bonwelt", which is a glued-in strip (leather, leatherboard or even plastic), which gives the look of a welted construction, but is simply decorative.

Here... you can even pick and choose what stitching, colour you want

I've been aiming for their Chukka in Simpson for some time. Cant wait to see if the new Sg store price is competitive enough for me to hoot there! :s12:

Thanks for sharing your experience. Do you mind sharing which retailer you bought from?

Maybe i should get the Carmina cordovan wholecut or ST.C adelaide instead.

GYW resole only EEA locally or else send back to factory.

Back one page dark_aLLey noted that costs for EEA will be 180 for non EEA branded resoles.

Up to you to weigh the cost and decide which option you want

Thanks bro. I emailed carmina and they quoted 150euros for resoling. Don't think that includes shipping. sheesh, guess have to drop by EEA to take a look!
cheers!
