I may get the Xiaomi 13 Pro for my mother if the 12/256 GB version drops to $1k.

The only catch in the specification for me is the USB 2.0, which is a strange cost-cutting measure given the price.

Moi recent Lenovo laptop only cost about 500-600 from Amazon US only

I found out that you can get it even slightly cheaper by direct purchase from China instead of the US. Most laptops are made in China anyway.

Why would your mother need top of the line USB?

You can go to the Taobao website and search for lenovo笔记本电脑.

I am not sure if this model is available there as companies sell different configurations in different markets.

There are many models within your below $700 budget. It is cheaper to upgrade the RAM and SSD yourself.

I think this is digressing from the thread ;)

My Chinese is not good, so searching in Taobao for a specific model is a chore. I use Google Translate for searching there and copying back to reverse the Chinese (a very tedious task). However, if you are not too fussy with Chinese local brands, there are a lot to choose from. I got my laptop from a Chinese friend who bought it in China.

While visiting Taobao just now for you, I accidentally found a laptop keyboard cover for my Chinese-branded laptop for around S$3+ inclusive of shipment. I was looking for it for the past 1 month on Shopee and Lazada without success. So I got to thank you for getting me to go to Taobao to search for it.

Just get direct from China. Global or reseller is not going to hit 1k mark anytime soon, at least not before 14 is out. But u will lose on the warranty. Or even better, just get the 8gb version will do, most people don't need the extra 4gb

I felt the same and bought S23U for my wife instead, was looking at Mi 13 Pro.
S23 Ultra is overall better than Mi 13 Pro, even in the camera segment, which comes with 10x Optical.
The screen is bigger and better as well.

Will wait till next year see Mi 14 Ultra or S24 Ultra for myself.

I went from oppo X3 pro to the S23U. Yes it is a good phone. But I couldn't live with the charging speeds. I travel a lot. I need to be able to sit down at the lounge, get 50% batt w a 30 min charge. samsung charging is too slow. i sold the S23U

If charging speed is your main reason then you could go for realme gt3. At 240w charging speed, 10mins is all you need to fully charge the phone

U don't have display out via the USB 2.0
Wireless display still quite laggy. How u make it into a productivity tools? A tablet still cma cause of the larger screen but a 6.1inch phone?

Oppo Find X6 Pro and Samsung S23 Ultra are similarly priced here, while Xiaomi 13 Pro is slightly cheaper and iPhone 14 Pro Max is the most expensive.

Again, Xiaomi has not optimised its camera software and performs worse than Oppo despite similar hardware.
