Xiaomi Box will eat the Singtel and Starhub profit meh ?
Xiaomi Box already everywhere in China.
Not only Xiaomi, Singapore also have own brand Pixeplay kuro. PixePlay | Entertainment Made Easy

You go Sim Lim Square see, so many type and brands of the android box.
Singapore Police no catch, should be alright.
US also never sanction China, should be alright.

No matter how good these streaming apps are, any content hosted on youku can't be played.. like tvb dramas.. most of them are hosted using it..

Lol, I'm not sure, but those Android box are plain Android only right? Without the capabilities to broadcast all the China or Hong Kong channels?

I see I just got the box via Deals.com.sg, even I'm on fiber it's impossible to enjoy the streaming.... Pointless device, my dad bought it for he drama and soccer but in the end can't, guess I'll just get OTG cable and attach external hdd lol

Does Viewqwest Freedom VPN works with xiaomi?

Yes.

There is a VPN option. Not sure if work or not since never subscribe VPN. HaHa

Anyway, Hoping some kind soul in the forum can confirm which VPN best for streaming chinese/HongKong drama.

Seriously, you have been very misleading. I can't find any VPN option on the xiaomi at all!!! Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm also desperately trying to find a VPN configuration in it because my main interest is to watch HK dramas with it. I've been googling around and I read from some chinese forums that there is NO VPN configuration on the xiaomi. You can only do it on the router! Please enlighten which part of the settings menu that you saw the configuration for VPN??

I only bought my xiaomi2 last week. It is jailbroken on xiaomi v1.3.20 but I've yet to watch the HK dramas that I want. A friend of my using the older xiaomi was able to watch everything until recently, which I learnt that they have started geo-blocking. Which means you definitely need VPN to watch the HK dramas.

I can't test with my VPN yet, because i can't find any VPN menu in the xiaomi. Can't test on my router either because my router doesn't have that feature. I intend to buy a new router at the same time upgrade my connection to fibre. Now I'm stuck on whether to get Viewqwest with the FreedomVPN or not. I heard that the FreedomVPN only support certain sites like Hulu, Netflix, PPTV etc. But xiaomi works together with iCNTV to provide the streaming, I read from another thread that FreedomVPN does not support iCNTV. Can someone help rectify this?? As in, can you see the latest HK dramas appear in the main drama menu with FreedomVPN?

If FreedomVPN doesn't work with xiaomi iCNTV, I also have another question. Since Viewqwest FreedomVPN works with PPTV, my xiaomi came installed with PPTV. Will the FreedomVPN works with the PPTV installed on xiaomi to watch HK dramas?

Thanks for reading!!

My test experience...

I managed to get VPN configured on my router to test my Xiaomi2. I bought it with jailbreak, so I don't know what is pre-installed in the original set. Mine comes with apps like Youtube Youku Tudou PPTV 阿狸直播 VST全聚和 Xunlei and some other more.

The main video menu on Xiaomi is powered by iCNTV. From my test, the contents whether with or without VPN are the same and can be watched. iCNTV already filtered off a lot of contents on the Xiaomi. The selections are limited with no latest HK dramas. Same for the PPTV on Xiaomi, with or without VPN doesn't change the limited of contents available.

Tudou has a lot of contents but you need VPN to watch the geoblocked ones, like the HK dramas and maybe latest China dramas. Not sure about movies, didn't test them out. Youku has lots of contents as Tudou. Surprisingly, the contents on Youku are not geoblocked! I believe it only works on Xiaomi because I tested on my PC browser and was geoblocked.

阿狸直播 is for watching live TV. Lots of channels available. Doesn't need VPN to work because the streaming are mirrored. I can't comment on the speed because I'm using cable and it was terrible. Not sure it was my connection or the source slow.

VST全聚和 can watch live TV as well as dramas and movies. You can register a free account with them and add more sources for the live TV using their web portal. Their dramas and movies selection are limited but a lot of latest ones. The HK dramas are in Mandarin and mirrored from Tudou or Youku so you don't need VPN to watch them.

So basically you can still enjoy the Xiaomi without a VPN, but you need to have it rooted and install the various apps. The original Xiaomi with or without VPN, doesn't have much things to watch. Hope this helps!

you don't even need the box to watch. i have a computer, hdmi to TV. my android phone is the controller.

cable has faster speed to overseas website than fibre. my singtel fibre super fast, but when playing with youku, it kept stuttering. my 25mbps starhub cable plays 720p youku, tudou sites smoothly most of the time.

no VPN used.

in terms of VPN, if use Astrill VPN on youku, Singtel fibre gives a better and stable speed than starhub cable.

Of course with a computer can do all the things, no VPN can also use proxy. But we are discussing Xiaomi box in this thread.... lol..
