if you really have no clue on gadgets, better don't buy xiaomi. buy minix tv box instead.

i used both before. nothing special about minix. it work about the same. but minix will cost more with current both latest model unless u can find cheaper one in market now.

Its not about minix being special or anything, but which box is more suitable for noob users and which box has better aftersale support. Case in point, now you having problems with your mibox 3, have you managed to find any help at all? Try searching for anything on xiaomi boxes and 90% of stuff you get are in chinese. Good luck trying to solve problems relating to mibox when there are precious few avenues where you can seek help from.

On the other hand, apart from regular firmware updates, minix has an active english forum where you can find or ask for help when you have issues, even for their older models from 2-3 years ago. And since minix is one of the more reputable brands out there, there are plenty of other sites and forums on the internet which provide discussions or resources useful for end users. But all these comes at a cost as you have to pay a higher price for getting a minix.

mine was due to root damage the system image. for now mi tv does not need to root the system to watch the show/change language anymore. just download apps & install can watch already. btw my mi tv box still able to use just that i cannot update to latest xiaomi system only.

How come there is no discussion on the memory partition for someone that has use a XM n Minix. Isn't that 1 of the important factor?

Again, as for the new 2gb 8gb XM, how is the 8gb partition like?

Read some where that for the latest 8gb, after system apps n reserve, blah blah blah... 5.3gb is used up... Any idea?

If the partition for this 8gb is as such with those previous XM boxes. IMO, there is no improvement at all...

I believe the 5.3 gb system apps was highlighted within a review video.

However, there is setting within the setting panel that allows apps to be installed and functioned from USB stick.

Guess this is too new n need users to experience n find out. If with 8GB and still need to expand memory using USB storage. This design is definitely another failure MiBox....

most likely xiaomi's intention is to make it a game console. games need lots of storage space.

for TV's usage, 5GB should be sufficient.

the easiest way is to get another box with playstore.

Stupid users are stupid.........cant believe got people asking those new mibox sellers on qoo10 whether they have sets that come with the full 8gb free space. Sure, can. Just pass them the box with no OS installed at all and let them enjoy the 8gb of free space in its full glory. Also as warned previously, for that seller that forced buyers to pay additional $30 to install streaming apps, now majority of people who bought from that shop are complaining that the apps dont even work half the time. No sympathy for these gullible buyers that dont do their own homework and willingly get conned.

The authority is cutting down on the use of the tv box due to copyright issues.

So, they have to remove the SD slot to prevent more memory expansion.

The 8Gb storage should be sufficient for normal usage unless you are installing a lot of apps.

Still waiting for the white box to reach here is see what additional lock or restriction that they have imposed.

There is a version of youtube that can be installed and operated in Mi Box.

You need to google and find out.

Collected the new 6th gen mibox(white) from 1 of the qoo10 seller(not the one with mandatory $30 option price). Set it up and did abit of quick testing. Bootup is super fast. From turn-on into entering the mitv UI takes about 20 secs.

Out of the box, usable disk space was 5gb. Did one OTA update to the firmware and left with 4.9gb usable space.

Initial set up was a breeze if you understand chinese. Bluetooth able to pair with all 3 BT wireless earphones i own. Able to use my own airmouse with IR dongle connected to 1 of the usb ports. Dont really like the Mi bluetooth remote due to lack of mouse cursor.

MITV UI is really snappy. Transition from page to page/screen to screen is fast without any noticable lag. Detection of external storage device connected to the box is abit slow. Takes about 5-8 seconds before the device will show. Able to sideload apks without problem or restrictions. So far i have installed about 5-6 of my own apps and all of them work without issues. However, on my 720p TV, due to some reason the default MITV interface size is a little too big, which means that apps interface will get cut off and wont display correctly. Can be solved by going into the MITV settings and change the interface display size from 100% to 97% or 96%.

Exiting from apps and switching to other apps is instantaneous. Overall, its really a very fast and zippy box. Have not had the time to do more in depth testing like media playback or try installing kodi. Maybe i will update accordingly when i have the time to do so.

As to drawbacks, for now i would say the included remote isnt the best if you are used to your own airmouse. Also the box runs pretty hot despite the internal fan. Try not to touch the box during operations.
