Yes. Is shafa installed ? It van help to upgrade

Not sure if this is the right place to ask...
My mum has a Mibox that hasn't been working for awhile (prob 6mths or more), according to her, the apps no longer work. Is there any way to reinstall the apps or install new ones to get it working again?

Nope, dun think Shafa is installed, looks like the stock app that comes with the Mibox. How do I install new apps onto the Mibox? Will it brick the device? And what are some of the best english apps for it? Sorry for the questions, but I've never used a Mibox before and I'm trying to get it working again for my mum.

just uninstall all those useless app, or do a factory reset. it won't brick the device - not so easy to brick, unless you are expert.

for english app, just install movieshd, cartoonhd, mxplayer

Just bring it back to the seller and they will restore the apps for you. They usually have two free restore within a year

Ok after reading thru the thread and some googling, I wanted to install Shafa. Downloaded the apk onto my USB and plugged it to the Mibox. For some reason, my Mibox keeps giving authentication error when I turn it on, even after doing factory reset. Resetting allows me to get into the main menu for a few minutes, and I tried to navigate to my USB drive but it keeps telling me no files are detected. Getting very frustrated with the whole thing. Can any bro help?

Its 沙发管家.
After much trial and error, finally managed to install Shafa Guanjia and Shafa Zhuodian. Apparently I needed to update the Mibox firmware first which took me more than an hour. And strangely after installing both Shafa apks, it says my storage space is 70% full. Didn't realize the Mibox's internal storage was so limited, then again it seems like my mum bought the older 2nd gen MDZ-06-AA.
Other than kodi or movieshd, are there any good apps to recommend? Mum likes Canto and US dramas. Also would be nice if I can find one to watch the French Open live too.

Limited storage is one of the major problem for mibox.

Because of many complaints, xiaomi improved its firmware so that you can use sdcard to expand the storage. However, it is not so straightforward, you have to change the settings at several place to enable the sdcard.

They are many good apps available too.

I suggest you join the facebook group "newtvboxsg". All the info needed can be found there.

Kodi is memory killer eg 400mb. With limited space. I would sacrifice kodi, can install 40apps or more to replace.

xiaomi 3pro solved those issues.
rooting it makes it even better

Can advise what software did you used to root your box ? kingroot ?

Beside installation of Google Play Store, what are the additional benefits of rooting the box as it will dis-allow the firmware update from xiaomi.

Mi Box 2 does not have a SD card expansion slot. I am not sure whether the new firmware allows the box to install new apk through the use of thumbdrive. This will allow the installation of KODI.

Suppose some site is geoblock. The vpn app may need to be root in order to bypass geoblock. Some app can only work if rooted. Once root, u can removed unwanted buildin app by xiaomi.
