I will go for the black wan. The white wan is a nightmare.

Its all the same.......xiaomi's problem is that their hardware while good, software side they dont bother to put in the effort to optimize things. I bought the white one for almost 5-6 mths and so far they have only released like 3-4 major or minor firmware updates. I think they have already decided to stop providing updates and support for the box.

The white one is china version. NO google support so no playstore no youtube and rooting to install google service is not for amateurs. You can't even watch instantTV properly. You can't do anything to the built-in launcher so you are stuck at this format

The black one on the other hand is google supported. Comes with Android TV 6.0 OS and has playstore and youtube. If you are not happy with the original launcher you can change. Loading apps is much much easier and apps are TV version not crippled mobile version.

Dont buy xiaomi boxes if you are new to android tv box. Their boxes are not exactly the most noob user friendly. But hey your money your choice. The white one is pure chinese interface but you can change to 80% english interface using work around. The black one sld be default english interface.

What's a good, easy to set up android box now if I only want to (1) watch netflix and (2) stream from DLNA server on NAS?

No need 4k, only going to be attached to FHD tv.

No need 4k, only going to be attached to FHD tv.

99% of china made tv boxes will only display netflix up to 480p due to certification issues. Only boxes i know that comes with working netflix above 480p is wetek core and any tv box based on android tv os(nvidia shield, mibox international). I dont do NAS streaming so i cant comment on that. But based on your netflix requirement alone, you dont have much choices going for you.

EDIT: Clarification.

As follows:

DNS 1
- 158.69.209.100
- 45.32.72.192
- 45.63.69.42

DNS 2 - 8.8.4.4

yes, one of these numbers should work.

but sometimes one or more servers will be down due to ddos attack or simply overloaded due to too many users.

Today I tested it, 158.69.209.100 works. After you configured the dns, you need to do a network optimization in mangoTV. I don't know exactly what mangoTV does with the optimization, but it will show you the speed, if the speed shown is more than 6Mbps, it should be good. It will also memorize the best server so you need not run it again on the subsequent day. Sometimes I use mango's optimisation to determine which servers to use, even for other apps.

For mangoTV, try to start with SD first, if SD always work for you, then switch to HD to try your luck.

I recommend using "engelsiz" app to change dns, because we have to change dns if the selected one is down due to some reasons. It is very tedious to type the number over and over again.

Ok...thank you! I'll try the optimization. But does it help if my device is region locked by the MangoTV app?
I input the DNS directly into my router.

Thanks for the advice.
Did not know the black one was google supported. Does it come with Android TV OS (google support) if buy direct from Taobao?

Btw, i always thought the white one 小米盒子3 was the latest considering its more expensive RMB399 compared to the black 小米盒子3s RMB299!!! I assume the OS is similar to the mini box 小米盒子mini版 RMB179 which i've been using. The Mini is perfect for kodi .. cept i have never successfully gotten it to run Google.

To me .
