I bought my phone from Lazada seller SmartCell and it came with tampered China Rom.
I tried flashing my locked bootloader (using the shorting pin method) with MiFlash 2015.10.28.0 and received a 'not enough storage' error followed by 'catastrophic failure (0x8000fff) Error receving package'
Now my phone is stuck with Mi word on screen.
Is it bricked?
Can anyone advise???

Have u tried reflash it with the same procedure again? I had a similar problem but mine is unlocked. I just keep reboot it for many times and eventually it booted into fast loader again.

Wah. i think your case is called bootloop.

You can try this method.
http://en.miui.com/thread-291785-1-1.html
Is very likely you can unbrick it.

By the way, what is shorting pin method?
If you able to unbrick it, go apply bootloader unlock, only takes 2 to 3 days.

The shorting pin method is a trick to flash locked phones without using the engineering cable. U will need to short pin 3 of your USB plug with a wire and later pull it out. It's taught in mui.eu forum

I see, I was thinking to buy the engineering/flashing cable but the shipping takes so many days. So I might as well apply for unlock permission which is safer to flash a device.
If you happen to update the china rom to latest then it has very slim chance that you can unbrick it.

What you can do is do the 7 days return and get back your money.

Hi,
You are a lifesaver!! The above method works fine and is so easy!
I'm just wondering.....since this method is so foolproof and easy... why do they recommend all those complicated methods like using engineering cable or applying boot unlock? Will this method not work in certain circumstance? Why does it work for my case?

I glad I can help :)
Are you able to flash to global rom or restore to China rom?
Personally I think this method not easy, I need to try a lot times then can get it to work.

I think this method may not work if you update to latest China rom. Can you remember are you on the latest China rom when your phone got bootloop?

Ok. I started by receiving my sealed lazada phone loaded with China fake rom (the one with lots of malware).
I immediately started reading up at MIUI forum and found
[Tools, Tips & Tutorials] [Device Team] Locked Bootloader- Flashing Official ROM From Unofficial/Fake ROM
I guess I totally forgot about option 2 (your Mi PC suite method) and skipped right into option 3 which was the complicated Bootloader method.

Anyway, the phone seems to be working now and showing 7.5.2.0 Global Stable ROM.
However, during the flashing, the updating percentage jumped from 60% to success without going through 61% to 100%. Will there be a chance that the phone did not get a complete ROM flash even if it appears normal?

I see, any fake rom still have a based version. Actually before you press the upgrade button while running the mi pc suite, it will display the current version but I guess you didn't notice it.
I did it 3 times and is a very long process from 50 to 100%.
For your case, I not sure and if phone is working fine then nothing to worry about.

Just to check, if i order from dealers like Lazada, what else must i do with the phone to make it Android-friendly/useable? Is it still must zhng or anything like that? Read abit about flashing on roms and all.. Is that more of a choice or would the product be fine for use immediately (ie. have Google Play Store, can get google apps, get updates etc)

The cheapest sets from Lazada are export sets...and likely comes pre-installed with China modified(fake) ROM. China ROM does not have PlayStore. Moreover, China fake ROM has lots of Malwares in it.
It is best to flash to official Stable rom from XiaoMi (either China rom or Global rom).
Global rom will work well in Singapore without anymore tweaking.
China rom needs tweaking and side-installation of Playstore...which is tedious and complicated. (some people like china rom as they claimed it has more features and more stable...but I think global rom is more suitable for newbies)
There are a few methods to flash to official MiUI roms from Xiaomi.
Instructions are from http://en.miui.com/thread-309122-1-1.html
Lots of other info are also available at this forum.

I would recommend that you do not use the phone immediately after opening but quickly flash to official Miui ROM to get rid of any malwares and set the phone to original factory state before using.
