Lock your bootloader, and do not select mi pay as default. Procedure is in previous thread.

Thanks. How about the rom?

When buying from 3rd party you should probably flash an official rom (China or Global or EU, stable or dev) regardless of what it currently has, just to make sure there is no malware on there.

Also, before buying, make sure it's genuine. Make sure the rom version exists and is official and check the h/w design matches official images (e.g. Mi logo style and placement, camera lense placement and design etc).

Battery drain

Facing battery drain on my new Mi 5 32 GB bought from official Mi Store, even though I am not a heavy user.

Battery life already not good on MIUI 7 (mobile data, bluetooth, GPS and NFC off most of the time and WiFi only on when needed). Then the email support asked me to update to latest ROM (MI5Global_V8.1.2.0.MAAMIDI) but battery life is still not good. Tried to search online for a solution but cannot really find anything. Anybody has any suggestions?

Have you turn off the auto sync?
Anyway, I think battery drain for android is common. For a 300mah should able to last 1 day (without heavy YouTube and gaming)

I just turned off the sync. But would this have any impact since my email "push" already set to off? Lasting 1 day is really lousy for low usage. I saw the HWZ review and battery life is supposed to be very good!

the sync not only impact on email pushing. if you sign in mi account, it will sync on mi account stuff like sms and etc.
Maybe the HWZ review is comparing with iphone :)
