HD+ display only, to me that's the only main drawback. SD 665 is more or less the same as 660?
Otherwise, shortcomings of Mi A2 seem to be addressed, larger battery, UFS 2.1 storage, headphone jack and expandable storage. Same launch price as Mi A2 in Europe.![]()
But if you think about it, the display won’t be that bad. Despite the lower resolution, its an Amoled panel, making it more power effiecient and giving deep blacks with better colors. Combine that with the 4000 Mah battery inside the Mi A3 and all of a sudden you have excellent 2 Day battery life. SD 665 is a slight improvement in performance over the SD 660 and a headphone jack is always good to hear.

why does everyone **** on the Mi A3's processor though? I mean people like me who don't really care about this kind of chips don't know the difference and not really that bothered about that little detail that makes a portion of the fanbase go crazy![]()
The 720p and low 286 PPI is so disappointing. Initially wanted to get this one but I think it is better to get RMN7P.

I would agree SD 665, if viewed in it's vacuum, is perfectly fine and suitable for this particular product.
However, in another context, the most likely buyers would be owners of A2 which was already rocking SD660. In this scenario, coupled with the model name ( unless it's has been changed ), it would be viewed as a downgrade ( or side-grade at most )
Mi A2 ( SD 660 ) ~ Mi A3 ( SD 665 )
But if Xiaomi has decided to rebrand current models, it would be a very different story:
Mi A2 ( SD 660 ) / Mi A2 Lite ( SD 625 )
Mi A3 Pro ( SD 710) / Mi A3 ( SD 665 )
the most likely buyers would be owners of A2
I think the most likely buyers would be owners of (much) older models who see this new model and deem it a significant enough upgrade from what they currently have.
Phones these days have such incremental upgrades that it's very hard to justify buying a new phone if your current model is like not even 1 year old yet. Only iPhone have that kind of brand power.
Agreed, Mi A3 will probably appeal to those who have Mi A1 or older Redmis/Redmi Notes (3 and 4).
Being a Mi A2 user myself, didn't really consider the Mi A3 since my phone is not even a year old at this point. But display and processor aside, I personally think they made the correct changes from the Mi A2, like larger battery, faster (UFS 2.1) and expandable storage, headphone jack, all the main gripes I have with my Mi A2, so not all is bad.

What I hope Xiaomi will improve on is to not introduce new bugs without fixing old ones in every month's new security patches.![]()
