Ey no, he using miflash beta. See the photo liaoz.

That is to say, Cokiee probably needs to use the official version of miflash instead of the beta version he has been using.....?

The point here is, it is either official or beta depending on pc...

Restarted com and all, and this is the first level error. Same as earlier. Then i click on flash again, and the second error: "can not read from port com4" turns up.

Fml.

the phone's in EDL - I make sure to go through the whole process of booting up, then power down and then vol up + down + power key.

something i missed?
Fastboot is just vol down and power key. It'll show the Fastboot word.

I didn't go into fastboot actually - just EDL. I'm aware that the fastboot bunny will appear if i go into fastboot. But from reviews and dragonguy's post it's ok to flash from edl?

from mid/ late afternoon lah. hehe. Not sure if persistent or stupid..

U got unzip the rom file 2 times right? First time will get a 3GB plus tar file, unzip again will get u folders.

actually, after dlding the zip file from en.miui.com i get a zip file - i then extract them, and all the folders appear. No .tar file?

I hope he did enter the EDL mode correctly, and not entering the Fastboot Mode

EDL Mode = Total Blank Screen.

Fastboot Mode = Got "Bunny" with "Fastboot" on screen.

This should be the path of the ROM in miFlash:

anyway just follow this instructions and see :

Steps to Flash ROM: -
1. Download ROM from the above link (Which one you want to Flash) and extract it to Desktop(Use Winrar Software to extract).
(Please check if the file suffix is '.tgz'. Please rename it to '.tgz' if the suffix is '.gz or .tar')
Note: - Some users get error while extracting on Desktop Because there is space in the username of PC or the folder as shown.

The users should put the ROM In C Drive in a folder without spaces. E,g C:/ROM/MIUI

2. Download flashing tool from the above link and install it.
3. Once installation is complete, Run MiFlash application
4. Click on browse
5. Select ROM folder from Desktop(From the location where ROM is saved)

Note: -The path of the ROM folder Should be like "C:\\MIUI" Not "C:\MIUI\images"
The MIUI Rom folder should Contain the following files

add-on: can u screenshot your device manager if the qualcomm driver is it installed?

Did u download the correct Fastboot rom and not recovery rom?
Ur folder setting in miflash seems incorrect and didn't see tar file also a problem.

I think cokiee gonna get confused soon.

Anyway he is using edl mode (blank screen mode) to flash. And i think he just start this evening.

@cokiee, try the official miflash and see if it works for you. Else if cannot, please continue what you let off at the adb part. If still cannot, download the recovery rom on your mi max and update via the phone updater, since yours is a official global rom on your phone now. After that just perform a full system wipe to ensure clean which bro kelvinti mentioned before to you. Edl mode won't run away for now, so can try in the later part.

actually that's not what it looks like. When i extract the zip file containing the ROM from the miui website, it's a zip file. I extract the ZIP and out comes 3 folders. There's nothing with a .gz or .tar inside - i suspect that's it, that i'm not pointing the miflash to this file.

zip rom means recovery or the original one (which i cant rmb) but that's not fastboot.
