Yeah, design overall is better on Mi Max, with a similar back design as Mi Note, albeit with a metal body instead.I find the design better than redmi note 3 - Mi Max is thinner (7.5mm vs 8.65mm) and the speaker is now at the bottom instead of the back.
But for such a big phone, it would be good if the fingerprint sensor is in the front rather than at the back
For this fingerprint sensor placement thing, it has been debated for a long period of time whether a front one or back one is a better solution.
Well, front sensor is of course the best solution as you can wake and unlock the phone with just a press, but with such a large-sized phone it has shown that back sensor is more sensible as it's a strain to stretch your finger to the front keys while the back solution is more natural when you hold the phone.
