Don't you ever encounter any situation where you have earphones plugged in but not playing any music or videos? During such situations, when I'm using other phones, I don't hear the spinning noises.

You can say you have never encountered but don't need to ask me to see psychiatrist. I'm just suspecting I got a lemon set by seeking clarification in this forum.

it's a known issue that the phone detected your earphones as earpiece (if you notice the icon is different). so far i can't find a 100% method avoiding it but you can try what i do -- slot in the earjack let phone to detect it then when it's confirm earphones and plug it in slowly. :s12:
Actually what I meant is I heard faint noises similar to hard disk spinning when using the phone with my ear phones plugged in.

I just tested with my mum's local set and encountered the same spinning noises. When I replicate the same test on my note 5, I don't hear the spinning noises. So I suspect the mi max may have some damping issues with the processor. Not loud enough to be a nuisance and more noticeable since I've been camping in quiet places to study these days.

Cheap phone cannot expect too much. ^.^

hey guys where in sg can get decent screen protector, heard simder trading de not bad? can go their shop there buy and let them paste? lazy to wait for aliexpress shipping
Left side is mine. $5 tempered glass bought from Qoo10. Halo around the phone due to curve glass.
Right side is my mum's, bought from Challenger causeway point for $2 after using $10 prs voucher and 20% member discount. Not bad. Can cover black border of screen.

No such problem...

-----------------------------------

Check that your whatsapp is enabled under AutoStart

Settings > Permissions > Autostart

If this still doesn't work, then also enable 'Allow background data',

This is under Security app, Settings > Data Usage > Allow background data

Common problem for Miui. Try using the task menu, swipe WhatsApp icon up to lock the program . Not 100% but better.
