The tips of the 2 plugs, as shown in red. So long as it is not metal and looks like plastic.

I've got the MiTV2 since last month, nicely packed too & have been enjoying it. 4k resolution is awesome and after downloading other apps (xbmc, youku etc) into the TV (not Xiaomi apps), my wife/family watches the latest korean dramas & movies from the 49" TV ever since.

For the movies, it lagged initially but after a while it's smooth. Of course, if you have a 1GB wifi speed then there should be no issues.

For that awesome price & quality, it beats all the other branded UHD TVs hands down man !

Bro, can you tell me what apps you use to watch dramas? HK and Koreans pls.
I tried xmbc but it keeps crashing on me.. i give up already. Anyway to fix?

Xiaomi 3.5mm to SPDIF Cable

To all who are in this subject discussion.

All along I had the impression that the xiaomi cable was using optic to convey the digital signal. Unfortunately, those pics available didn't have enough resolution or was not at the right angle for me to be sure. That was the reason why I asked i1Magic to check the tips of the 2 plugs.

Thanks to the link provided by k8118k, more info was available. Specifically, the cable was described as "...stranded center conductor...". This means that center conductor is metal, not optical fibre.

Devilsire asked what's the difference between 3.5mm and SPDIF. In a normal 3.5mm jack, there are 3 terminals - for left, right and ground respectively (see pic below) for stereophonic sound. In the case of xiaomi, there are 4. I don't know exactly how they are used to convey the surround sound.

In the case of SPDIF terminations, it can either be coaxial (same dimensions as RCA), or Toslink (which is the optical equivalent) to convey the surround sound.

If the xiaomi special cable is not used for connection to the speakers and the latter is bluetooth capable, the signal is probably connected by bluetooth.

Wow ... thanks for the explanation. The Xiaomi TV is great so far. Not so great after the accidental firmware "Upgrade".

Hopefully Xiaomi will release a next patch soon which will take care of the problems. Or just give me back 1.1.70 .... LOL!!

To get the most out of this tv, you hv got to watch in at least 1080p on a bluray or a bluray-rip.
IMO, it pointless spending all these money on a 4k tv and not maximising its potential.
The panel is one of the most accurate rendition Ive ever seen.

工程师来检测了,已经修好,换了块主板,现在一切正常。

Look like upgrade firmware cause the mainboard spoil.
Beware that they are talking about a beta firmware. Still shouldn't happen...

Sorry to say cannot...This is an optical cable. One end is the usual Toslink connector (optical in for your sound bar) and the other end that looks like 3.5mm jack has a tiny optical lens at the tip.

If you look at the Q & A again, it said "First, your LED TV must have a optical out and..."

The 3.5mm out of the Xiaomi is not an optical out, but rather an modified version of coaxial out.

Thanks mrsun18, how do I get the sound from tv to my soundbar via optical?

You need the Xiaomi 3.5mm to SPDIF Cable, and a coaxial to toslink convertor as shown in the link:

http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Coaxial-Toslink-Optical-Converter/dp/B001622FL8

Disclaimer: I have never used these products. But on paper it should work, also verified by those who bought the convertor. Quality of sound unknown - no review on that - people were just happy that it worked.

Edit: you still need another Toslink cable to connect from the converter to your soundbar.

Typo, he has amended to Pc.

Oic. Sounds too technical. But the thought of using a Mi TV2 55" as a monitor for my PC did crossed my mine. It is like having 4 x 27.5" FHD monitor. But I'll have to upgrade my gfx card.
