for Kodi I made the same experience. Passthrough will give awful sound. I tried to play with other settings already, but not satisfying. The sound with the standard Videoplayer App is much better from my point of view... But I will try to find a Dolby Digital or DTS Test-Video. Then I will compare again.
Later I will also try the Kodi-Passthrough-Experimental builds offered in the Kodi-Forum (mainly for NVdia Shield, but I will give it a try
). Maybe these builds work better... Kodi is very convenient, especially for the build-in subtitle search and the support of *.ASS Subtitles (which are better looking and more convinient then *.srt, from my point of view...).
