Hmm just found out that when u change the UI to chinese, the Apps tab can now be accessed. But when in english, its blank. Anyone has this encounter?

Just bought the Mi TV 2 55". How to install Google Play on it? I googled and tried some of the steps online but couldn't get it to work.

Currently, the firmware on my Mi TV 2 55" is 1.1.70. This should be the stable version.

What I understand is that the writer was complaining about xiami embedding advert in the firmware 1.1.86D plus other grouses on their business strategies.

Hi, from what I read, do not upgrade to version 1.1.78 stable. This is when all the ads started....
And version 1.1.78 also force auto upgrade when there is a new firmware version (1.1.86D stable) without user consent...
This is also when many china users got upset with Xiaomi methods of pushing ads to consumers.
A chinese user edit his router setting to block this auto upgrade..

he Chinese comment is right on the dot.
Another thing one has to watch out is IP TV is IP base, you never know when these contain will get block due to copy right reason.

i'm using it more as a display then content. I have a Kuro Pixeplay which i use more than the apps on MiTV.

During the last 2-3weeks, there were many posts in the xiaomi forum about this advs problem.. Many of these posts were deleted by the xiaomi forum admin.

小米电视自发布以来，就一直给人以高性价比的良好印象，宣传上也动辄“顶配”、“最强”的硬件，还会拉上一帮国际大牌做一下对比测试，据小米官方结论，自然是领先、超越、秒杀竞品了。对于这么高规格的产品，价格却不到一线大牌的一半，业内人士不禁要问，利润从何而来？也许小米电视目前就受到了盈利的压力，急于将用户数量转化为营收量，不再满足于低价硬件的微薄利润，开始在其它方面做文章。
小米电视传统的获利渠道还包括视频付费点播，应用及游戏商店推广收费等，但面对没有付费观看习惯的用户以及电视平台缺乏真正吸引力的游戏应用，可以推测这方面的营收是相当有限的。在盈利的压力下，自然小米的目光就投向了电视平台最传统、最大的经营项目：广告。
在7月底更新的1.1.78版电视系统中，广告开始席卷用户的电视屏幕，引起了小米电视用户的极大不满，在小米官方论坛上，愤怒的用户谴责帖子铺天盖地，然而小米官方团队却对此三缄其口，不作任何解释。愤怒的用户喊出来“年轻人的第一台广告终端”，“粉转黑，一生黑”等口号，不断刷屏。
据用户反映，小米电视广告主要出现在以下几处：
电视由休眠状态唤醒时，显示全屏广告，需要手动按钮关闭。
电视主界面显眼处，有广告banner。
电视主界面上，新增一个大幅“智能家庭”模块，里面都是小米的智能家庭产品广告与购买链接。
使用小米电视播放任意视频，不管是本地移动硬盘内，还是在线影视模块里面的，暂停时都会显示全屏广告，需手动关闭。
使用安装在电视上的第三方APP，例如泰捷视频、VST等，在APP载入时会插一条全屏广告，甚至在第三方APP播放视频暂停时，小米电视也会“聪明地”打出一条全屏广告。
以上所有广告均没有任何可以禁止显示的设置。
从用户反应看，小米这次强插广告是操之过急了，在市场培育阶段就杀鸡取卵般强求营收数额，以非常恶劣的方式极大地影响了用户体验，最终可能失去用户信任，搬起石头砸自己的脚。
对于大多数用户来说，广告并非十恶不赦，使用网络服务或内容提供商的免费服务时，允许少量广告，用户不用付费，提供商也有利可图，是双赢的结果，然而小米的做法却跨过了用户的底线。
作为电视的产权所有人，用户为电视这个硬件一分不少地付费购买，电视是为用户服务的，不是为小米的广告营收服务的。小米却在用户的电视上强插广告，尤其是并未使用小米在线服务的情况下，在本地视频播放阶段强插广告,在电视的基础功能上强插广告，是不恰当甚至是违法的行为，除非用户购买电视时双发即有协议表面这是一台“广告版”的硬件。
亚马逊的kindle阅读器，就曾经区分普通版和广告版两种产品销售，其差价是显而易见的。试问，亚马逊可以给购买普通版的用户推送广告吗？购买了广告版的用户会反感被推送了广告吗？
另外，小米在第三方APP载入阶段和暂停时强插的全屏广告，让人误以为是第三方软件的广告，这种行为令人不齿，与栽赃嫁祸无异，实在不是小米这种级别的企业所应该做的。
雷军曾经宣讲过他的用户期待论，做产品就是要超越用户的期待，给用户以惊喜，然而用户却被小米的一闷棍给惊呆了，小米真是碉堡了！雷军还大力倡导“新国货”，然而优秀的国货不仅仅是配置高价格低，要做能赢得用户的国货，“Don’t be evil(不作恶)”是必须做到的

看了论坛中其他人的记录，原来是升级系统之后系统把MAC地址更改了，现在是00开头的，而原来的是10开头的，所以导致看不了自带的在线视频。电视后面贴的MAC地址是10开头的。更新个系统能把MAC地址改掉，小米真奇葩啊！看其他坛友的说是要换主板，太无语了！

ya thats the worst case. paying 1.5K for a 55" display. i read and saw the ads were everywhere with the new firmware. even when videos are buffering, they insert full screen ads as well... on home screen also has ads... WTF man

mac address cannot be corrected once written (base on few cases i read on miforum). need to change the main board.

have to sit and wait and read all the ewviews when new firmware is released before i update... well like the old saying goes "if it ain't broken, don't update"

The seller does all that for you and for additional $25, they'll install YouTube for you. But there is no Google Play.

I googled on how to install Google Play but so far none of the methods worked. Now the YouTube which the installed for me is screwed liao. LOL!! Must contact them and see how to rectify it.
