Hi guys, I really need some help please. So I decided to go the Redmi Note 3 (SD650) instead of Redmi Note 4 (SD625) after reading the gsmarena reviews.

I want to get protect my new love with tempered glass and casing. However I do not know if my phone is the RM3 Pro or the RM3 Special Edition. My measuring tapes shows that my phone is measuring at 151mm. It's neither 150 or 152.5mm.:eek:

Please help... :(:(

Basically easiest way to go and access settings>about phone> software version, then check MIUI type.
RMN3 PRO IS codename MHOMIDI after the software version aka kenzo -> 150mm

RMN3 SE IS MHRMIDI aka Kate -> 152 mm

You measured at the start of tape?
Try measuring again at the 10cm mark? Lol

I used ruler + tape earlier.
Took your suggestion to start at 10cm mark, it measures closer to 150mm. But it leaves me with another problem below...

Thank you for sharing. Base on the information, it seems like I am having the Special Edition. However, the dimension of 150mm doesn't seem to add up.

Also I have issue authenticating my product on http://www.mi.com/verify/#imei_en

It keeps giving me the error msg that "Your IMEI doesn't exist, please verify and enter again.":eek:

Pretty sure yours is special edition.
1) you probably bought it new. The pro edition was old stock.
2) your box the model number is 2015161. Based on forum link that's the new one. I personally use the RMN3 pro so mine is 2015116.
3) the software name cannot be wrong bah that one if they flash wrong model will brick phone.
4) I physically measure my RMN3 pro the glass screen with tempered glass screen protector, it's approx around 148 mm only. So the 150 mm is due to the rounded edges at top and bottom which will not be accounted for when using a ruler. Even with measuring tape it's hard to account the tapered edges. Unless using a vernier caliper.

Do you have the sticker at the back with FCC ID:2AFZZ-RT3616?
Your model number and CE1317 implies it is the special edition.
Check if you can update to miui8.2.3.0 also. That's the latest ROM for special edition.

Guess I need to purchase a vernier caliper for better accuracy.
This app is showing the FingerPrint function is a Kate thou.

How come the MI box sticker is in Malay/Indonesian ?? For xiaomi original box it should be in chinese/English only. I don't think you can trust the printing on the box.

The best is to measure it directly from head to toe, if you measure 150mm then its note 3. If you measure 152mm then its note 3 pro prime. There is no way for note 3 pro prime to have 150mm. Most likely the package was modified to look like note 3 pro prime, but it is actually note 3, maybe that's why you have imei error etc.

I have no idea why is it in Malay or Bahasa Indonesia. But I bought my set under the export section in Mustafa. I measured my phone with another ruler and it shows 150mm.

Are you referring to this one?? Mine is showing 2AFZZ-RT3161 instead of 3616:s11::s11:

ah yes that's correct. i wrote wrongly.
Your ROM tallies with the MIUI forum ROM download though
http://en.miui.com/download-301.html#449

I just measured mine and it is 152mm from the back bottom to top plastic cover.
If you measured the front silver bezel, it should be around 150-151mm

apparently, my IMEI doesn't exist in the authentication also :s13:

Edit: P.S.
I inputted the S/N on the sticker, it says
"This is a Redmi Note3 32GB EU gold 32GB"
I believed you used the S/N in phone, so maybe you can retry with the S/N on the sticker.
Not sure if the other bros using kate have different S/N in phone and stickers.

For some unknown reason I still cannot authenticate the originality of my handset on xiaomi's site. However I did what you suggested, and took the measurement of my phone from the back. It is certainly about 152mm. That was really helpful, thanks!

150mm = note 3 or note 3 pro
That means yours is not the special edition, the special edition comes with extra LTE band of 700mhz, and is 152mm.

Originally I wanted to get this note 3 so I looked at it for quite a few months, that's why I am fairly certain special edition is 152mm because it was stated everywhere then (together with the 700MHZ LTE band). In the end I got the note 4, and spec is 151mm (confirm with my ruler measurement, not 150mm or 152mm).

The special edition has the extra 700 mhz band that is why longer by 2mm.

Is there any apps in google playstore which will allow me to detect which antenna bands my phone consist?

To all using Redmi Note 3 SE (Kate), do you all find photos look super grainy regardless of ample or low light? I did try out the camera of the Note 3 (Kenzo) back in April last year during Mi Singapore's Note 3 experiential event and don't recall it to being so poor.

Just updated to 8.2.2. change log shows quite a number of fixes. Might be biased but phone feels snappier. :)

Keep the updates coming! Compared to my previous LG, XM certainly has more frequent and regular updates!

Updated to global 8.2.2.

My experience:

1) Phone is snappier, but battery drains faster.
2) Fingerprint sensor is less sensitive, and there is noticeable lag in unlocking phone
3) Cannot install apps via usb without signing in to Miui account.

New update has battery drain. This phone is famous for having exceptional battery life. If i charge to 100%, sleep and wake up, at most it drains 2% only. Last night after the update, 100% to 88% overnight. Android had 8hrs of keep awake time.

But like what lairon mentioned, phone seemed slightly more responsive. But not worth this crappy battery drain. Too bad, im stuck with this **** and lazy to revert to old version

Updated also. Overall is snappier.

Battery does seem to go down faster. But did a restart and standby seems okay. Have to monitor further.

Hope we will get nougat also.
