Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G

I've just gotten my Redmi Note 4G, and having 2 issues:

When I connect to PC, it only shows me the MI folder, but not the internal
storage folder I have been trying to check about drivers and all but still can't detect it on my pc (running Win 7)

However, when I use FTP connection, I get access to it.

I want to do this, because I want to transfer my WhatsApp backup folder from my Mi3 to new Redmi Note.

Despite using ftp connection (as I can't access it via usb), I am unable to transfer the backup file in. I created a new folder on my new phone, and tried to transfer just the backup file in, also can't. Its not allowed.

Anybody knows why, or how I can get around this?
Would love my whatsapp chats back (not just the groups)

I think got to do with the permission of the folders. I suggest you copy another of the backup. So both internal and external also have the same file.
then u try bluetooth the file over to the other phone. Still cannot save the backup in the sd card then plug the sd into the new phone and then copy from there?

That seemed to have worked!!! Strange.. So disturbed by this.. i didnt have problems with Mi3... sigh. should i be regretting.. I noticed that on Note4G the images are less crisp..

Going to try and start WhatsApp now, hopefully it uses the backup and picks up the individual msg threads

That seemed to have worked!!! Strange.. So disturbed by this.. i didnt have problems with Mi3... sigh. should i be regretting.. I noticed that on Note4G the images are less crisp..

Thanks..brought my phone down to check and got it repaired in 2 hrs..
good service..they have ready parts for replacement.. did not expect them to get it fixed within the same day.
gotta say well done to xiaomi!
Hope they keep up the gd service and value!

I've rooted and installed PhilipZ recovery. Possible to get back to the original Mi recovery as I've problem using PhilipZ to install a new rom. Flashing stopped a few seconds after starting.

Ya hope they keep it up. Is with these ppl that phone price will go down.
But once their business become good and get more market share it will most likely end up like the rest of the big boys.

Pull down window shade to see notifications. Just above the word "notifications" is your data usage, e.g. "Today: 35MB"

Click on the number to go into Data Usage

Click on Stats to view usage of data by app

Thanks... I checked... nothing sucks up my data at all... I only used say 100MB for today... clicked this month only 1GB...

Quick question for fellow RedMi Note users -

When I plugged in my Audio Technica ATH-M50 or the ATH-ESW9, sometimes the phone will think it's a headset (as opposed to just a normal headphone) from the icon on the status bar. And then Google Now will be invoked randomly or there will be random clicks registered by the phone from the phantom buttons.

This does not happen when I plug in my ATH-CKS77 (an in-ear). Any idea? I'd prefer to listen to the ATH-ESW9 instead but the constant switching to headset mode is killing the experience.

The calculation of data usage may differ from Note 4G and the telecom as the telecoms might calculate in a different way as from the Note 4G.

the wifi at my room/office is quite weak, as it's located far from the router

suddenly remembered about reverse tethering, so did some googling

xiaomi has a app that you can install to enable this

install on your pc, then connect phone via usb

there will be an additional toggle appearing in notifications panel
"use computer's internet connection"

Anyway, I notice it's running MIUI V5, not V6. Anyway for me to update it to V6, because I don't really like the skeumorphic design of MIUI V5, prefer flat design of V6.

You can try updating to Note 4G's MIUI 6 Developer ROM but it doesn't comes with Google Play Services pre-installed so you have to separately install it.

Sounds like too much of a hassle. I think I'll just wait for the official update to be pushed to my Note 4G. Thanks anyway!

how u ppl backup....as other phone have their defacto app and PC software like iTunes or KIES to do it.

Is the screen protected by Gorilla glass? Safe to use without screen protector? I currently have a matte one on mine, but I am very tempted to remove it, cos with a matte screen protector, the image on screen is less clear
