When on dual sim overseas, how to make WhatsApp use my sg number?

SIM 1: sg sim card (calls only)
SIM 2: overseas sim card (calls and data)

I thought as long as you don't change your whatsapp number, it will still use sg number?

Not sure, I thought it had?

I was on MIUI 9 briefly, before I decided to revert back to an earlier firmware. I thought I saw it.

Sorry if I saw wrongly. :o

SIM 2: overseas sim card (calls and data)

It will continue using the same number unless u verify on a different number.

The best way to try this is if u removed all SIM cards from the phone and used Wifi only, u will find that indeed WhatsApp still works, and on the same number as was previously verified.

i'm not sure what was the earlier s/w... just that her phone is set to auto-update (i set it that way as i don't expect her to update s/w herself... but i didn't expect the s/w update to make such drastic changes either...) and that day the s/w updated and my mum had to click on prompt to restart phone... and after that the easy/lite mode is gone...

how u revert back to earlier firmware...? need to manually download and erase the ROM...?

Yes this is a stupid thing from Xiaomi. When a phone is on the older firmware, there will always be this nagging notification that one can accidentally press and it will update. Cannot disable the notification unless one roots the phone. :s22:

Anyway, to install older firmware, need to unlock bootloader and best way is to download the fastboot rom of the older firmware.

That is correct. As long as we don't verify on a different number Whatsapp will remain connected to the number it has previously verified. I have been doing that since Whatsapp was invented. I travel a lot of overseas (60% in last 10 years) and my whatsapp never changes despite me slotting in different local sim cards from different destination.

It will continue using the same number unless u verify on a different number.

Go update, touch on the 3... on top rigjt, auto update, disable auto download and auto install.

disabling these two is not enough. The nagging notification is still there and cannot be disabled. The risk of tapping on the notification accidentally is there.

Do the following too...
Application (apps), updater, show notifications, turn off those notifications.

Cannot. The notifications for Updater cannot be turned off. It's always at the blue on button.

It worked!! Tks..

But now how do I know if I'm indeed using my overseas SIM for data roaming?

I've set default call and default internet to be the overseas SIM operator. Is this sufficient?

Coz now my hp on top got this icon..R inside a circle..it means roaming is activated on my sg SIM.

Should be fine since u set the default call/internet correctly already. Roaming is activated on your SG SIM cos it still needs to be ready to receive calls mah.

Updated last night with no loss of photos thankfully! But would still advise those who are updating to make a backup since some people have experienced data loss.

So what settings did u tweak?

One that I did was to disable system animations.
