I did some more testing. I flashed the miui10 developer rom and guess what? It successfully flashed and when the phone starts up, it shows miui10 but in the about phone area, it still shows 9.5.6 oiimifa nonsense. This seems to be hardcoded somewhere which baffles me, why would anyone do that?

Anyway, the good news is that the flashing does seem to work, but you will not get ota updates since that oiimifa thing never changes.

Hmm... I can't seem to upload images. Not sure how long the imgur images will last.

You did FastBoot flash? Did you select "Clean all" ?

Actually ah, why chiu all dun want buy the factory pre-loaded official global rom (aka Global version) ?

Why rather buy the one with pre-loaded China ROM and then risk it by the retailer flashing a "unofficial" global rom (aka smlj oiimifa thingy) ?

Yes, China set could be much cheaper than the Global Version set but why chiu all rather go thru all these re-flashing problem than str8away get a set that's ready-to-use out of the box ?

Moi dun understand.

Used to be very easy to flash from modified rom or China rom to official global rom but somehow its different this time round.

Really so jialat? I thought after unlock should be able to flash any rom... :s22:

well as I mentioned earlier, I did test with miui10 china developer rom and it worked, everything was in chinese and the logo was miui10 but the about phone still shows the 9.5.6 oiimifa.

so the rom flashing works, its just that miui version in "about phone" doesn't change for some reason

That's bad enough as you won't be able to receive OTA updates

Does the Redmi range like this Redmi Note 5 support MU-MIMO ? Don't see it in the specs.

If have I think they did specifically it. As per their flagship a phone which did indicate. Best is that someone with mumino router to test and find out.
