Anyone using india set?
May i know how is the 4g and everything?

If everything is fine i think i will just go with india set as i think that is the cheapest 4/64 gb sold by jtbc in shopee ( i think they are selling india set as they stated 20mp front camera)

I am afraid that they might jack up the price after local set is released.

And here is the difference between the 2 version( info from miui.com)

India version
-------------
12MP 1.25μm Rear Camera, f/2.2 Aperture, PDAF, single tone flash, face recognition, HDR, Sony IMX 486 Sensor
5MP secondary lens, 1.12μm, f/2.0 Aperture, Samsung Sensor
20MP front-facing camera, 1.0μm, f/2.2 Aperture with soft flash, 1080p, Smart Beauty 4.0, Sony IMX 376 Sensor

China version
--------------
12MP 1.4μm Rear Camera, f/1.9 Aperture, PDAF, single tone flash, face recognition, HDR, AI Portrait Mode, Samsung Sensor
5MP secondary lens, 1.12μm, f/2.0 Aperture, Samsung Sensor
13MP front-facing camera, f/2.2 Aperture, 1.12μm, AI Smart Beauty with soft flash, 1080p, AI Portrait Mode, Face Unlocking, OV Sensor

If im not wrong, china version has better primary rear camera as it has larger sensor and wider aperture and as for front camera,i dont think we can compare as india version has more megapixel but smaller sensor.

China version has camera AI function/software as a bonus but if this just software feature i think soon the india version will get it as well. (***I do not know whether the AI feature relies on the sensor or is it just a software***If it relies on software, india version will never get the AI feature***)

For camera wise i think both version has decent camera
Extra info: So far xiaomi only release sony sensor on mi flagship phones

And finally the main reason why i hold back on buying india set is because india version only support 5 bands.

Redmi Note 5 Pro India LTE Bands

4GFDD-LTE
TDD-LTE1/3/5
40/41 (120MHz)
3GWCDMA1/2/5/8
2GGSM2/3/5/8

Redmi Note 5 China LTE Bands

2G: GSM (Band 2/3/5/8)
2G: CDMA (Band BC0)
3G: CDMA EVDO (Band BC0)
3G: WCDMA (B1/2/5/8)
3G: TD-SCDMA ( Bands B34/39)
4G: TDD-LTE (Bands B34/B38/39/40/41 (100MHz))
4G: FDD-LTE (Bands 1/3/5/7/8)

If anything i mention above is wrong please do correct me thank you

If yusoff and hailgod words are anything to go by, moi would advice chiu to stay away from the **** set no matter how cheapest they are.

Highlighted for chiu the keypoints.

RN5 Pro is indian version, comes with worse camera. Local sellers here sell china version which is RN 5 but they call it pro.

Better version would at least be global version of Miui official rom, best version is custom rom, but some things may not work. Difference is just about 600mb ram usage betw custom and miui.

you won't ever see rn5p here.
1. it's more expensive
2. it's aways out of stock
3. it has older a droid version and significantly worse battery life and main cameras

Both now can use latest oreo global rom so his last point is irrelevant.
Both can use portrait mode.

Photos taken indoors will always use f1.9, so if you are stuck with f2.2 the iso will be almost double to compensate for the difference. Plus with the slightly smaller sensor the effect of noise due to iso increase will be multiplied

of course all this wouldnt matter if you upload to facebook.

Talking abt **** set, any of chiu got buy this RN5 (or any other phones) at Little India there before (outskirts of Mustafa) ?

Sometimes at this kind of place (where most ppl will nvr thought of to go buy phones from) chiu can get some really good deals.

Iirc, there's one shop there selling the 6GB Tiong set @$340.

Just flash global rom into it if chiu want.

Bought from jtbc before during the previous sale on qoo10. It's China set for mine, they did clarify it when I was collecting at the shop. Pretty sure it's China set for the shopee promo , can give them a call too. Can only find their number on qoo10 iirc. Hope this helps those who r still considering whether is it India or China set.

I dont think is China set i.e the AI version based on the specs JTBC advertised. The spec says front 20MP camera and Android 7.

Redmi Note 5 AI spec as per gsmarena andis 13MP front camera and Android 8:

Did they advertise it as Android 7 and 20mp cam when you bought it? Doesn't make sense that the prices offered in both platforms have such a gap.

I was delighted when i saw Mi SG was bringing it in.

Looked at the specs, great phone!

Then i saw that it uses the ancient micro USB. Even my Mi A1 and S8 uses USB-C already. :(

Deal breaker for me.
