Did your father specify and ask the seller whether the phone is for overseas use and 3G compatible with foreign frequency band(in short WCDMA)?
If im the seller and if you simply ask whether the phone supports 3G I would say yes too

What i'm asking for is

1) is there GLONASS support (Note's box did not state it and it's known that MT 6592 does not support GLONASS. However, Xiaomi web does. Xiaomi should standardise their information.. It's okay to correct their info, like the battery)

2) real world GPS performance - answered by your statement below.

xiaomi sg has yet to get back to me on the technical side of your Q.

i understand that gps lock in time is dependent on weather and location.

i guess my dad got scammed.. we bought it in china for me.. the specs on the box said
"支持中国移动3G网络(TD-SCDMA)"
"支持中国移动,中国连通2G网络(GSM)"

china's 3g network is TD-SCDMA

singapore's is WCDMA

if they live in china, that's all the 3g they know and have ever used, you can't blame them for not even thinking of this issue

For ground delivery, better call UPS guy to wait u at mrt area. If you want them to send to your house, it will be another 4 days. my friend told me.

I think the only the main xiaomi devices has GLONASS. Like Mi2, Mi3. On xiaomi website redmi note listed as GPS and aGPS only. Mi3 lists GLONASS. So yeah. lol.

Redmi note does not comes with GLONASS, it has been tried and tested by those on MIUI forums with the physical retail set. If it comes with GLONASS, when you use the GPS Test app available from the playstore the GLONASS satallites will be represented with triangle, normal GPS satellites will be represented with circle.
