Hi guys, just a disclaimer i’m completely clueless about routers or internet stuff but basically im looking to change my default singtel router to the xiaomi router pro as i have many deadzones in my house. wifi superrr weak in master bedroom and the singtel router is in the corner of my 5 room flat. so im just wondering how to set the router up? im currently signed to the Singtel fibre broadband 1gbps. for example the new router connect to where? ONT? which port? etc. if anyone can provide me with a step by step guide i’ll greatly appreciate it 😅 sorry very new to this. thanks!

if u want to fix yr issue with e least hassle, go for a mesh setup.

Don't think xiaomi router support v lan, you should do the opposite and set xiaomi to extender

Anyone tried xiaomi router 3 (selling $39 in store). Is it better than asus rt-n56u? Cos I never get above 100mbps while using wifi. Lan speed usually ard 100-200mbps (On M1 500 mbps fibre broadband).

hi all need help, recently just replaced my asus router to mi 3 router. after set up, i got both 2.4ghz and 5ghz network, separated...then i went to merge them to become 1 network (dual band). now my miwifi app seems have issues connecting to the mi router. and even my smart tv take awhile to connect to the network...any idea whats gg on? usually do we merge both 2.4ghz and 5ghz network togather to become 1dual band network? other mobile devices work fine. im on m1 fibre :)

Not sure why you use this router. I would not use it for following 2 reasons:
1. It use MTK processor.
2. WAN port is 10/100 Mbps only. If your boardbank is 200M or higher, basically you do not get the speed you want from your ISP provider.

Because Mi 3 router's wan port is 10/100 Mbps only.

It's better to get the Mi 3G router, also known as the Mi R3G. It supports gigabit ports and has superior hardware.

For a more powerful router to cover most regular flats without the need for expensive WiFi mesh networks, consider getting the Mi Router Pro, also known as the Mi R3P.

Those interested in tinkering can flash the development firmware and install an SSH server on the router. This allows you to access all the configuration options via the command line interface. Basic Linux knowledge would be extremely helpful.

For example, you can disable the internal DNS, enable IPv6, change the guest WiFi SSID, etc.

Mi Router 3 generally offer only 10/100Mbps ethernet ports
Mi Router 3 Pro / Mi Router 4 is safer buy as it offer 10/100/1000 Mbps ethernet ports.

It can be quite confusing as specs wise, the Mi Router 3G is slightly better than the Mi Router 4.

My recommendation is to just go for the R3P at ~$100 as its performance is as good as those $200++ highend 2600AC

3 gigabit ports, 1 usb 3.0 for NAS & strong wifi signal coverage. Personally ive switched from Asus n running on my R3P for 1yr+ without any issue or any rebooting necessary.

Here's 1 of the review I found on net https://www.jayceooi.com/xiaomi-wireless-router-pro-review/

Sent from Xiaomi POCOPHONE F1 using GAGT

Just returned from the Xiaomi retail outlet @ Beijing World City.

Bought the R3G for RMB189 (SGD38). The R4 was selling at RMB179 (SGD36), but it lacked the USB port which i can convert into a NAS feature.

2 questions:
1. The only English firmware i found was miwifi_r3_firmware_62cf9_2.10.38_INT
This is the same as the Taiwanese version. Does it come with a built-in torrent downloader? Asking cos i have not opened up my router yet.

Any other recommended suggestions?

2. I bought the Mi Router 3G to replace my ASUS 66U. Dunno if its an upgrade or downgrade really.... i want better wireless coverage.

The Mi Router 3G is a AC1200, a budget router.
You are replacing which Asus 66U ?
If you replace the RT-N66U (N900), consider it as upgrade. Yeah !!!
If your replace the RT-AC66U (AC1750), then it is a downgrade.

As for the torrent thingy, it is best recommended you use a vpn and a pc/laptop to run the torrent client.

One thing to note, having a USB 3 connector on a router is not necessary a good thing.
The noise from USB 3.0 interferes with the 2.4 GHz band.
For this reason, my usb3 was always set disabled on my dir-868l previously .
