Just to share an unfortunate episode involving my 5 IV. I brought it along for my Taiwan trip and accidentally dropped it from somewhere between knee and waist height. It was on my lap with I was squatting down and it flipped out and down while I was standing up. It landed screen downwards onto gravel ground (the place is an old historic fort). I wasn't too concerned at first as I have a tempered glass protector which cracked. As I removed it, I realized the Gorilla Glass Victus cracked too, on the top right edge with a couple of crack ines going across the top quarter of the screen. Somehow the touch and display weren't affected till today. I emailed Sony Singapore last week for quotation and part availability, no reply. Likewise via their WhatsApp chat. I just sent another message to them this morning. I got a feeling it will cost around $500.

I had a similar fate with my Xperia 5, cracked within a month, Sony quoted my $400-ish. My 5 II had the green light after ~1.5 years. I got both replaced by 3rd party repair shop.

Sad. Remember to use phone case and tempered glass at all times.

I had both, else might be much worse off. It might not be usable at all if not for the protector. I'm just disappointed with the Gorilla Victus.

Hi I’m thinking of getting this phone. For the users of this model, could you share your user experience?
Also I saw it is using Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. May I know how is the thermal and heating experience from routine daily use with WhatsApp, occasional browsing on chrome and social media and mild usage of the camera?
Thanks in advance!

Other than the heat generated during the initial setup (mass installation/update of apps), the other times heat issue come up were prolong camera usage. I don't encounter any performance issue. The aggressive killing of background apps is bothering me though. I've tried turning off battery optimization and set apps' batt optimization option to unrestricted, I still encounter frequent app killing which is really frustrating. I might do a factory reset and see if it goes away.

I thought I read someone's post saying Sony doesn't practise background apps killing like the China brands (oppo, xiaomi, huawei etc...) which is why the China brand phones can have super long battery standby/life.

how come got this issue suddenly? :o

I have no idea. I don't have such issue with Xperia 5 and 5 II. It could be my setup having some issues. Will do a factory reset one of these days to see if the problem persists.

hows the phone performance after using for 6mths?
am thinking if i should switch back to sony, really liked the interface of my xperia z3 while it lasted :s13:
got it 2nd hand then, and it lasted 1.5-2yrs with me. i do tend to drop my phone ngl

just that overall the phone feels delicate [front and back was glass], charging port cover was also delicate :s13:

Today tried xperia 5IV with full brightness ( manual full brightness) and photo pro turned on and kept half pressing not to let camera auto off. The display never dim at all after around 10 plus minutes even though the back felt warm ! Nice ! I'm loving this phone more than xperia 1IV! One can now imagine how the samsung made heater processor can break and spoil so many experience and make such an impact. As well as how good and important the graphite sheet can do. The 5IV feels more like a compact powerhouse and more powerful compared to the xperia 1IV. One of the gripe is it's 2.5d display haha.

Now imagine xperia 5v with snapdragon 8 gen 2 and same graphite sheet. ULTIMATE POWERHOUSE !!!!!:love::ROFLMAO:

Update: look at the 5g connection speed test
