i suggested to my travel buddy that we exchange euro in bulk (since it is dropping so much) and then sell it when it is back high...the profit earned will help even out the expensive YEN we paid for the trip...lol.

i also thought it might have been the worst in December... lets hope this doesn't last too long and we will see 1.3 exchange rate during our life time again.
Seeing the good ol' 1.30+ will be a possibility juz like we were seeing like $1.25+ when our economy was at its zenith and Japan was having a whole shiatty load of political problems.

But wait for this Big Bear to lumber past first. My best guess is, we wun be seeing $1.40+ anytime within this year. Probably middle of next year earliest I guess.

why do you say that there will be a dip in March for Yen?

the yen is overdue for a correction. very weak fundamentals in japan. poor biz outlook, falling consumer demand and increasing unemployment.

no reason for the rise. probably s$ growing weaker.

aiyo why so morbid. choy choy. may you live long and prosper.

haha. no worries lah. Just want to emphasize the desire I have to return to Japan, it will probaby take some drastic obstacle. In any case if it is meant to happen, it will happen. Borrowing a term from some anime, there is no coincidence, there is only inevitability.

There is a reason. We just dont know it.

well , there is a rationale for it. you just have to link it to demand and supply.

poor economic outlook = fall in demand and exports. fall in demand will lead to less raw material imports and other forms of imports.

this could lead to a situation where both demand for japanese yen falls but supply falls less than proportionately. as japan relies intensively on energy imports (i.e oil) and to some extent, food and raw materials export

if you draw this on a supply curve diagram, it will show a net fall in the demand for yen. which will lead to a fall in cost of getting yen.

not too difficult to understand if you think a little. ;) but that may or may not occur due to a whole variety of complex reasons, which is why there is some truth in what you say too.

its just that it is more likely for japanese yen to come down, ceterius paribus, rather than for it to stay where it is now.

All i will say is that it is not correct to try to analyze the strength of the yen based on economic fundamentals such as the poor fundamentals that Japanese exports face right now. That will definitely lead you to think that the yen should be weaker than it is now when it clearly is not.
