can eat 3 ramen liao. 1 decent sushi meal

Sometimes is change liao then dont think so much.. :D

So far i have 120k from 90 rates and 168k from 84 rates..So with another 1k base on current rates, probably average out at 86..

But if it was 84 vs 90 and using 2k then of cos will tulan abit.. :s13:

Enjoying the trip is much more important..I think i also change too much..Works out to be about S$155/pax daily for meals and attractions not including disneysea tickets..

2 weeks ago i change 2k at 11.84..S$1995.84 = 168k..As compared to the current rates of 11.65, i lose about JPY$3316 which works out to S$38.60..Not alot..

Agreed. Unless you a someone just living next to money changer or work around that area. Spending extra time or extra trip to check may be already more expensive then the lost in exchange rate.

In some case, using your ATM card oversea as a backup is good.

cash better if the amount involved is big. won't get a shock when cc bill comes should the rate be unfavorable.

Wont be much of a shock..

Most of the time once u transact, you can login to your bank acct and see the hold amt..

Of cos take note it would be JPY>USD>SGD

The exchange rate is very close to market rate but the banks will charge an admin fee. For my case I withdrew 5000 yen to try and see what additional charges there are and was hit by a 2000 yen admin fee (this was with POSB atm card and 7-11 atm machine). Hence if you want to draw from atm better to withdraw at least 100000 or the upper withdrawal limit of the atm.

Japan is largely a very cash-based society. for all my trips i always bring cash to settle accomodations.

Don't agree with you. Many of their shops accept CC payment and depending on a person's needs, he/she may want to put it on their CC for convenience sake / points accumulation.

Carrying a huge bundle of JPY in my wallet is not my ideal travelling method

Same with me.
Hotels and restaurant those 10-30k Yen cost one
I try to use credit card, earn double miles.

If you bring more than 1,000,000 Yen in cash into Japan, need declare separate form to custom also

using ATM card in overseas is definitely a no no. their daily interest rate are much higher than those who swapped their card for payment:s22:

Touristy places and big stores would more readily accept credit cards, but by and large Japan is very cash-based. People are used to carrying a few hundred dollars around all the time.
