Isn't that also relative. It's a neverending comparison. What is above average now is not later.

Unless it is some limited resource, don't see the need to bother others from over taking.

It's very simple. Edmwers day in day out complained about cost of living, why? Because only those in the lowest rung of the society will feel the worst heat. Government subsidies or benefits is always to help this group to survive but it will never elevate them from the lowest rung to the higher rungs, that has to be depend entirely on themselves.

Now, if the lowest rung survive due to help from the government, you need to be better than them and you shall survive without any government help and cost of living will not be an issue for you. Better still, be above average and say bye bye to col. So, don't be poor. If you can, be rich.

Can save even couple of hundreds monthly is ok as long as housing loan,bills, insurance premiums and expenses are covered

I hold money lightly. Most if not all my decisions are driven by values and reason, not money. Seldom I use money to formulate a major decision. I have, I spend. I dun have, I dun spend. That's all. It is a tool to be used. Not a treasure to hoard. Or worse, let it change who I am, as a person. I rarely argue / quarrel with my wife over money. She wants, just take all. I dun care.

Don't mind me saying. Rich and poor are relative. Rich people existed only because there are poor people, vice versa. If there are no poor people, they will not be rich people.

So, if you are aiming so low just for self sufficiency, it only takes few people to strive harder and invest harder for them to overtake you. The amount of money you have is still the same. They just make money for themselves and that's all it takes for them to make you below average or poor.

I would suggest to still work harder and invest harder. At least make yourself above average.

I old tradition, believe a man should be the sole breadwinner. Wife should solely take care kid for better upbringing and do household chores. No maid and no in-laws or parents to ever take care kid.

Money si options. No marnee no tok. Liches can choose 2 eat omakase breakfast by chef flown in from Japan. Lunch in London and dinner in Maldives. Can go out to middle of the ocean in their mega yachts and do any kind of heinous thing but not a crime becos no law applies. Can eben go to sum country west of Japan for transplant organs easily. No marnee no options.
