Updated some min cycle from my exp:

Simba $10.00 min. bill 2 cycles (eSIM can activate overseas) = $20.00
Eight $8.00 min. bill 1 cycle (eSIM cannot activate overseas) = $8.00
Giga! $10.90 min. bill 0 cycle (eSIM can activate overseas) = $10.90
redONE $10.90 min. bill ?? cycle, eSIM can/cannot activate overseas?
Maxx $7.90 min. bill 0 cycle, eSIM can/cannot activate overseas?
MyRepublic 4G $7.90 min. bill 0 cycle, eSIM can/cannot activate overseas?
CL $10.80 min. bill 3 cycles, eSIM can/cannot activate overseas?
Thanks for this. Eight $8 looks to be the best choice for transitioning in and out. However, I note that Eight does not seem to allow change of ownership while porting.

Does Zero 1 still incur random Global sms charges for Iphone users?

Undetstand activation, facetime, imessage will trigger this charges.
most telco will ..

Zero1.sg users with iPhones may incur a charge for "Global SMS" when activating iMessage or FaceTime, as Apple servers send an international SMS for phone number verification. This fee applies when turning these services on/off or swapping SIM cards. Ensure you have sufficient prepaid balance or roaming credit if required.

May I ask which Non-Singtel network MVNOs is the cheapest to do this port-out to and then port back in? From what I gathered so far:
Simba $10.00 min. bill 2 cycles (eSIM can activate overseas) = $20.00
Eight $8.00 min. bill 1 cycle (eSIM cannot activate overseas) = $8.00
Giga! $10.90 min. bill 1 cycle (eSIM can activate overseas) = $10.90
redONE $10.90 min. bill ?? cycle, eSIM can/cannot activate overseas?
Maxx $7.90 min. bill ?? cycle, eSIM can/cannot activate overseas?
MyRepublic 4G $7.90 min. bill ?? cycle, eSIM can/cannot activate overseas?
CL $10.80 min. bill ?? cycle, eSIM can/cannot activate overseas?

redONE does not even support eSIM. It is the last current MVNO which does not support eSIM.

Zym added eSIM recently. heya did not support eSIM but the replacement Singtel hi! postpaid plans support eSIM.

CL -- minimum price is at S$5 per month, minimum two month billing, first month fee partically pro-rated.

Maxx -- 1 cycle

VIVIFI and Zym: minimum subscription period two months, first month pro-rated.

Zero1 will charge full month upon sign up and then charge 1st month's pro-rate in your 2nd bill.

CMLink -- one cycle, no pro-rated fee

No idea which eSIM can or cannot be activated overseas. But for minimum pricing, please check out the thread.

Most telcos will charge the global sms for activation and can never be waived. It is a legitimate sms usage and only happens for Apple iMessage activation.

Basically Singtel, M1 and SIMBA MNO plans, and the other MVNOs which support global SMS will incur charges.

SIMBA -- S$0.10 per global SMS in Singapore, no support of roaming outgoing SMS.
M1 -- S$0.15 per global SMS in Singapore, very high charges for roaming outgoing SMS.
Singtel -- S$3 Global SMS add-on for 50 SMS, or S$0.18 per global SMS in Singapore, very high charges for roaming outgoing SMS.

Gomo -- S$5 Global SMS add-on, no support of roaming outgoing SMS.
Zero1/Zym/VIVIFI/CMLink -- please refer to below post for global SMS charges in Singapore, very high charges for roaming outgoing SMS.

For now eight does not allow outgoing SMS to foreign numbers.

Starhub is the only one to offer such SMSs for free, on their 5G Unlimited+ Plans ($38 & above).

On the rest it costs around $0.10 - $0.20 per SMS. Singtel has a Global SMS add on pack for $3 per month that allows you to send 50 SMSs.

Your choice is to sign up for a postpaid plan with the 3 MNOs (Singtel, Starhub, M1), MyRepublic or the Singtel MVNOs that support global SMS.

For your use case, SIMBA may be most appropriate, as they offer a $10 plan, but SMSs cannot be sent while roaming, they can only be sent while in SG.

If you require sending international SMSs while roaming, you will need to subscribe to the remaining options.

Good info.

On the MVNO side, SingTel Gomo seems to have IDD and Global SMS add-on at S$5.
https://www.gomo.sg/add-ons

https://cdn1.singteldigital.com/content/dam/gomo/GOMO_Mobile_Plan_TnCs.pdf
Global SMS can be used for all destinations worldwide and will be charged at S$0.15 per SMS from existing IDD credit.

Other MVNOs with support of sending international SMS from Singapore.

1. MyRepublic
https://myrepublic.net/sg/mobile/roaming/idd

SMS to non-SG number: $0.15 per SMS

2. ST MVNOs

1) CMLink
https://www.cmlink.com/sg/en/local-rates/
International SMS : $0.18 per SMS

2) Zym
https://zym.sg/faq/international-calls-sms/
International SMS : $0.18 per SMS

3) Zero1
https://zero1.sg/international-voice-calls
International SMS : $0.18 per SMS

4) VIVIFI ?? S$0.30 per international SMS, info updated 4 years ago, maybe outdated.

I'm on vivifi, when first activated iMessage, indeed charged for 1 global SMS. Afterwards, never charged again.
Previously using eight and giga, even these two do not support sending global SMS at all, iMessage still can activate. Don't know why

Currently eight did not get any charges.

but their 5g network at vivocity weak so intend to switch.

Any idea which telco allow barring of outgoing global sms?

i am fine not using imessage or face time.

Just as a thought, I note that CL charges $0.45 per global SMS. Had to pay twice cos I accidentally activated on the temp number, and had to disable and re-activate iMessage/FaceTime.

Their local SMS excess charges cost as much as the global SMS for other operators!

Pro tip, switch off iMessage and Facetime before switching SIM cards. Switch it back on 1-2 days later, after your number porting is finalised and line is stable.

Edit: Updated for clarity. Added reference.

vivifi is okay.

A maximum of 2 Global SMS ($0.30/SMS) can be sent without the purchase of Global SMS Booster.

worst case is $0.6 per month

Looks like zero1 does not limit this

Oh so you mean vivifi has a safe guard for global sms and only allows max 2 outgoing per month correct?

But if you are overseas and a global sms is send out is that consider roaming sms and more expensive? is it capped to 2 as well?

first question yes.
For roaming, it is not clear.

For roaming outgoing SMS, I believe VIVIFI is the same as other Singtel MVNOs and Singtel itself, you will be charged high cost pay as you go rate, not limited to two. But outgoing roaming SMS is not that bad compared to roaming voice calls, typically S$0.8 per SMS.

https://www.vivifi.me/roaming-talktime-sms/

SingTel Gomo and SingTel hi! postpaid plan do not support roaming voice call (incoming and outgoing) and roaming outgoing SMS. So no bill shock.

shucks i guess you cannot get the best of both worlds.

I guess there is no ST MVNO you can bar outgoing global or roaming sms correct?
