1. Note: the Asus routers in this thread are all pretty good.

Note: I do not recommend lower end Asus ZenWiFi series like ZenWiFi 4/5/6 (okay as mesh node after a powerful router like TUF-AX6000, RT-AX86U, RT-AX86U Pro or GT-AX6000) as they seem to have multiple issues as reported in this forum, especially when the main node is also the main router.

Note: I also do not recommend Asus ZenWiFi XT8 unless you need to use wireless backhaul.

Note: in general if you do not need to use wireless backhaul with AImesh, there is no good reason to go with GT-AX11000 or GT-AX11000 Pro -- GT-AX6000 will be better and more cost effective.

2. Note: Asus China version vs Local version
They are basically the same HW and same FW, just different country code. The country code can not be changed as it is outside of the FW area. The country code will decide the minor differences in the behaviours.

Major difference:
Local version has three years HW warranty. China version will have no local warranty.

Minor differences in terms of FW behaviors:
1) China version has Chinese/English Web UI
2) China version may have specific game accelerator (网易 UU 加速器), just ignore it.
3) China version may ping Baidu for web monitoring but you can change the behavior.
4) Some China version routers may have special Web UI skins like Asus TX-AX6000, which is a bit different from local version TUF-AX6000.
5) China version has wireless region default to China, but you can change to Asia region to be compliant to local regulation.
6) Some reports say that Asus Instant Guard VPN may not work with Asus China routers.

Asus routers are excellent choices among consumer routers. They have very good FW features and relatively long term FW support compared to Netgear, Linksys and TP-Link.

1) GT-AX11000: it seems that there are not many posts about GT-AX11000, so I will include it here. It is very much like a tri-band version of RT-AX86U as the CPU is the same (BCM4908). It has 2.5G WAN/LAN port just like RT-AX86U.

RT-AX86S is a cut-down version of RT-AX86U and not really worth the price.

I can not find them in Jurong Point Challenger and Best Denki, both are listed in the Asus website.

On the other hand, probably soon they will appear, hopefully the price is not too high compared to the price in China.

One of the comparable model with RT-AX86U from other vendors is TP-Link Archer AX6000 router based on the same Broadcom BCM49408 SoC CPU (1.8GHz Quad Core Arm Cortex A53) with two 802.11ax radios - the BCM43684.

TP-Link Archer AX6000 comes with 1GB of RAM, a 2.5 Gbps WAN port, 8x gigabit LAN ports, and two USB 3.0 ports (1x Type-A, and 1x Type-C). It also supports link aggregation, band steering, and DFS. It is at S$296 now as an offer price from official TP-Link Lazada/Shopee Store.

So HW wise they are pretty similar (RT-AX86U is AX5700, lose a bit in 2.4GHz performance but nobody will really care).

Ha-ha, for lower end stuff, TP-Link is still okay. For example the cheap TP-Link AX10 AX1500 is actually not bad considering the cost (S$99 - S$109). And the S$99 per pair Deco M4 mesh is also not bad.

But I agree that at S$296, TP-Link AX6000 may not be a good buy. RT-AX86U will be a better buy even though the cost will be quite a bit higher.

Same for TP-Link AX50 AX3000 (S$189 offer price) Asus RT-AX58U is a safer buy even though it has higher cost (S$208-235).

Is it people who use wifi6 router need to subscribe to more than 500 Mbps internet plan (example 1Gbps) then wifi6 is useful to you?
I read most people don't really need 1Gps, 500Mbps is good enough, if you are using 1Gps I wonder why you all need 1Gps?

I don’t really like tp link. I only buy ASUS for the past few years. Never give me any problems. No point save little bit $ but later problematic. You don’t save on a router, using it daily, later problematic, waste time go troublesome. I see reviews, say good I buy already. Save time, no headache!

Don't think anytime within the near future i.e week or even weeks ? Till date both routers don't seem to have cleared IMDA licensing yet.

First video is a commercial for Xiaomi, using Xiaomi WiFi 6 router against an unknown competetor's WiFi 5 AC router. Ignore it.

Second video is a commercial for Asus, not really very suitable for Singapore where 1Gbps plan is common.

As for 500Mbps plan or 1Gbps plan, it is not really that related to WiFi 5 or WiFi 6 routers in reality. It depends on your use cases.

The truth is that 1Gbps does not offer much benefits compared to 500Mbps plan. Firstly the international bandwidth for the 1Gbps and 500Mbps plan will be very much similar, well below 500Mbps for most of the international sites. Secondly, 500Mbps is more than enough for most of the things you do. As Netflix 4K streaming uses only 25Mbps. So you can have 10 devices streaming 4k video and yet only need 250Mbps.

On the other hand, it is perfectly fine to use good WiFi 6 router with either 500Mbps plan or 1Gbps plan. Firstly it is easier to saturate the bandwidth and you will feel good. Secondly you may have valid use case for the high speed wireless connection (near 1Gbps) within the household (eg: high speed file copying from NAS to laptop). In this case it has nothing to do with your Fibre Internet plan as this does not go through the internet.
