"I worked on public holiday I should be paid an additional day of salary instead but they gave me off in lieu"

You seem over zealous to seek authorities intervention.

And based on that alone, ... as an employer or dept. head, you're not one which I will welcome to be onboard.

Reflect on your own conduct & mindset ... if you ever aspire to climb and progress.
You might as well say you wish your workers don't know the employment rights .
Reflect ? I don't regret reporting them to the authorities
Don't worry i also don't need such dept Head.... People like you must forced me to report you to the authority

There was a clause about working on public holiday that it will be addition pay but company don't follow the contract yes according to mom by default is pay unless mutual agreements for those who are not covered under part iv.

If there is a clause in your contract that said that then they will have to pay

they rather outsource the work.

some companies, though big, might also be too obscure in the public eye to attract top talent, so they rather ride on the brand name of a prominent recruitment firm.

Recently I received a call from a recruiter for a job.

Ask me put my expected salary lower else the other party wont interview me.

End up when surfing jobstreet, I spotted that particular company and job, the expected salary on the job ad was like 25% higher than what the recruiter told me

the difference in the monthly salary is pocketed by the recruiter/recruitment agency for a period of anything from 3-12 mths..

thats why they wanna make u lower ur salary. make no mistake, these recruitment firms have absolutely no interest in helping match people to a suitable job, its all about the cut they get..

I see. Nowadays I just ignore their calls. No point.

Most agencies take a monthly cut of 20% of your salary. So whatever gross salary you've been offered by the recruitment agency, the employer actually had a budget of your gross salary * 1.25 * 1.17 (assume 17% employer CPF contribution)

Example you were offered $1000, employer had already set aside budget of $1462.50 to hire you.

My advice is that if you don't want to be low balled or work every month for the recruiter for free, avoid recruitment agency. The commission is really steep.

If you can get into the company through other means, likely your pay will be higher even though you do the same exact job.

Hi guys.

I've signed with the employment agency for a role in this company and due to start on mid August. However there is one clause that say that if I choose to withdraw the offer before the first day of work I will be required to pay them one month salary.

May I as if it can be enforce legally even before I start working with the company?

Recruitment companies that successfully place candidates on contract or permanent hire actually get 1 month (approx) of that candidate's salary from the employer, subject to negotiation. If temp per-hour type of hire, they get a % of the hourly fee - so for example for temp hires, employer pays agency $12/hour all inclusive, but agency pays the temp $8 or $7.50.

Honest question. Is there a recruitment agency(s) which you highly recommend and a recruitment agency(s) which you will avoid at all cost?

Why the question is because I am thinking to join the industry. So far I only know these few:

  • Adecco
  • Capita
  • GMP
  • JAC
  • Kelly Services
  • Randstad
  • Recruitexpress

Thanks in advance

It will be tricky because an employment contract with your signature endorsed on the document means it is legit. Any reason why you are not joining?
I have seen cases where there are no such clause on employment contract (direct hire), and the candidate does not turn up for work. He/she has no commitment to pay the employer. Employer can only facepalm and look for new candidates...
I have also seen before cases where employer few days before start work date, contact the candidate that they will withdraw offer. But the employer was nice enough to give 1 month salary to the candidate. Lucky for the candidate, she found a new job quick fast, so that 1 month salary was like bonus out of the blues.

Recruitment companies that successfully place candidates on contract or permanent hire actually get 1 month (approx) of that candidate's salary from the employer, subject to negotiation. How much recruitment firms earn, depends on the contract the client (employer) signed. Usually recruitment firm will give good terms (lower commission rate) for big brandname companies, this is win-win for the recruitment firm because they can go around saying they are recruiting for big XXX company.
For executive level on permanent hire, rate can go around 18-22% of annual salary. Such positions usually come with 3 months "guarantee".
Contract based positions will bill hiring employer by the month, usually on similar rate, or sometimes higher. Most of the time, such position are parked under the recruitment firm's headcount, thus the candidate has minimal or no benefits depending of what the recruitment firm offers.

senior consultant called me on my job application. quoted me 3 to 3.2k for a short term role 6 mths.

Said ok. Went for interview. Got shortlisted.

Came back to me after a few days and lowball me.say client can only offer below 3k. LLST i say try to get the max for me since previous job already more than 3k.

Came back and gave me even lower offer at 2.5k. Reason quoted due to post covid reason. and then say what company resources and equity need to account for more than xxx number of current headcount. tried to psycho me to take.

Gave her a piece of my mind for quoting me so high in the 1st place and then lowballing me.

i really see them no up after this experience. wonder how she got senior consultant position.
