Hi all, need some advice. Bought a 4room in Simei and based on the wife's design, the kitchen walls are knocked down so the kitchen/dining area is one large L-shaped space (slightly less than 600sqft). My ID and gaincity says that a 24k BTU for this outside space is not enough - is this true in your experiences?

Bc of this, gaincity suggested i get a Toshiba system 5 (apparently the Toshiba sys5 compressor is the only brand that can be bracket mounted because it's less than 80kg). So 2 fancoils in the outside space and 1 each for the rest of the rooms. Do you think this is feasible?

Thanks. Any advice and recommendations is appreciated.

Interesting, how much do they quote for the system 5 and how much is the max BTU?

ignore the area factor/btu

aircon works by cycling the air in room and cool it. when u got 1 long stretch or unevenly room, it is impossible to cool it efficiently or achieve constant temperature....somemore kitchen generate heat.....
e.g
If area is square, we will setup 5 aircon unit
if area is uneven, we will setup 8 aircon unit to cover the blind spots....

my friend's living room is connect with long corridor.....the tech recommend to do partition for the corridor to max cooling for the living room.

I have a long kitchen / dining area that's 8-10m long. My 24k does the job, but if I were to revisit the process, I'll install 2 12k units at separate positions instead.

@wongminmin: how long is a "long stretch"? my combined outside area is 10m x 7m (for the respective sides of the L). We're also not looking to cook so regularly, and if we do, we won't be turning on the aircon outside (projected only for night time / when guests or family members are over). So all I'm looking to achieve is a cool (not cold) atmosphere, especially in the living and dining area (kitchen is not impt). I would also like to install a screen door/moveable partition between my living/dining area and my kitchen, but the wife has ideas about the aesthetics which, well, rules that out.

@petetherock: may i know how long does your 24k take to cool your space, and what temperature is it able to be maintained at? also, roughly how large is this space?

@sacredx: the Toshiba package consists of 3 10k, 1 13k and 1 26k unit. Compressor capacity is 8.3 kW (3.7 - 11.5kW range). Quoted $6,299 with $200 capitaland and $500 gain city vouchers. Another $230 for new wall bracket and installation.

It doesn't take long to cool - the space is a bit larger than the dining + kitchen area of your typical HDB flat.
No issues going down to 25 or less in a few minutes. But I use a System 1 from Mitsubishi Starmex. 24k BTU. I prefer reliability over economy.

ok give u 1 e.g
With peter setup, he find it cold but with the similar setup, your wife don't find it cold. Cause different environment and person.....
so for the safer approach, ur id and contractor suggest 2 aircons split units.

actually if not cool, u can always use fan to circulate the airflow. ;)

hi everyone, does big retailers like GC, Best Denki, Courts etc visit twice for installation? My ID is pushing me to use his aircon contractor as they will come first time to lay piping, then the ID will waterproof/tile, then the aircon contractor come a 2nd time to install fan coil.

You can always appoint your own aircon contractor and ask your ID co-ordinate the timing. If you use ID , the ID will take a cut of the aircon contractor's fees.

Mine is GC last time, they came 2 times, 1st to lay all the pipes , 2nd is to fix the unit itself. So no worries about that. But I forget if theres any extra charges but even if there is, it will be worth it. :):)

Gain City normally would push for MH. And the reason to get could be anything from higher btu as compared to other brands and also long wind throw.

Take a walk a few GC branches to hear them out. Ask them what they recommend. Usually it's MH.

if i am sales, i will push for mhi for performance vs price....cause promoter no need to think much about after sales. then a lot of people think mhi=me....same company. :(
