Thanks for the kind replies, i just tested it and seems like the culprit is the port connected to the OnT and to the Wall.
I'm not familiar on how the cabling works on that box as it seems like each wire(from inside the lan cable) is connected to a certain port.

I put a cat 6 cable to the OnT connected to the router and I'm getting 800mbps.

I am getting similar wired speed with this with Singtel.

You are switching to M1 and most likely you may get a bit lower speed. But that should not really matter though.

i am switching to m1 500Mbps plan to save the monthly fee. haha.

to be frank, the speed is overkilled. haha.

even for 500Mbps.

Finally got 1GBPS wired, but on wireless (2.4/5ghz), it is still 20-50mbps. Even on full bars. :/

Anybody got an idea why?

Need to troubleshoot systematically.
- connect laptop to router by cable and see if you can get 900+Mbps.
- if cannot, connect directly to fibre modem to see if can get that speed
- if can, now connect by wifi. Speed can be up to 800+Mbps, depending on distance etc
- if still cannot, reset router.

Hi all, I am changing my internet from M1-500mbps for a 2 floor house (2100sqft) to a 1gbps plan. Main use is quite basic: surfing, working, music etc for family of 7. 2nd floor connection is not great at this point.

I saw that Starhub has a promo for its 1gbps with the 2*Nokia Beacon 1 at ~$40pm (with installation costs). I was initially considering MyRepublic but would need to build out my own wifi mesh, cost will be ~$60pm, albeit the router will be better (Asus RT-AX3000, wifi 6)

I'm looking for some real life feedback. Given the price difference, how is your experience with Starhub using the Nokia Beacon 1 generally? Is it worth the difference compared to MyRepublic setup?

Another option available with Starhub is to change the 2*Nokia Beacon to 2*Linksys MX4200 Velop, and that would add on $16pm (bringing costs to $56pm).

Any feedback/opinions would be welcomed. Thanks!

Checking now

Router model ?
Wifi device model ?

Connected to wall port = Linksys EA8100

Connected to Linksys = Dlink DIR-868L

My PC is connected to the Dlink which is getting 800-1GBPS

Both router's wifi can only go 50-80mbps

It seems to me, whatever device you are using to test the wifi is on the 2.4ghz frequency. If that's the case, the speeds you are getting looks normal.

FYI, the resale price of the Nokia Beacon 1 is like around S$40, so do not have high hopes on the performance. Starhub basically gives the two units for free if the price is only S$40 per month.

Linksys MX4200, on the other hand, is a good mesh solution, much better than the Nokia Beacon 1.

Can you use Ethernet backhaul (connect the mesh node to the main node using Ethernet cables)? If yes then Nokia Beacon 1 may be good enough if you lower your expectations. You may even get more units cheap from Carousell if you still have dead spots in some rooms.

Thanks for the response. I dont think I can manage Ethernet backhaul to second floor in the current set up, so will need to rely on wireless backhaul.

Looks like cannot go with the base Starhub plan (Nokia Becon) for my purpose. Will need to spend a bit more.

Ho much is your M1 500mbps plan?

Anybody know which is the cheapest 500mps plan nowadays?

You can top up to get the MX4200. But if for any reason you end up with the Beacon 1 and you want to sell away, I don’t mind buying.

Of course you can. That is what I am doing. ONT > Linksys Router > D-link switch > Smart TV. Maybe you connected wrongly or the cable is not working. Take the TV end of the cable and plug into your notebook to check it is working.

No matter what plan you use, as long as you get speeds enough to read email or play youtube at lowest settings, Srathub troopers will say connection is good. Best is to run cables.

What happens if I connect the tv end to my notebook?
