Hi all
I'm considering Zeus or Solity locks due to the sync function. Was wondering if anyone here has experience with these brands.
For transparency, I don't own either brands. I have experience of another kind. Feel free to ignore if there is no value in the feedback.
One looks like a low cost mould of an ODM. I can't find (on Google) the Korea listed company (with a lightning logo) nor can I find the lock on Korea online market too. The rim lock bolt looks thin: if you have the opportunity, check if it is hollow on the inside (of the bolt). The other is an ODM's own brand (house brand if you will). If any has more skin in the industry
game, it would be latter. Both are unfortunately light on the materials (
heavy on the plastics) but that seems the norm nowadays (and not apparent to most, so let it be). I always prefer the company with more skin in the game (in the absence of any other attributes or requirements).
Also whether I should get a rim lock or mortise for door.
Thanks so much for any advice rendered.
The way to look at both would be: a highly differentiated balance between physical security and price. A mortise lock will be much harder to break - it requires drill and/or highly skilled locksmith or tools. But not all mortise locks are created equal - especially the cateye intrusion feature that is missing from some, without which it is an easy 2 mins job for someone with skills and tool, and without much din. The rim lock gives with a strong kick on the door (for some models, not all): it either breaks the bolt (at that price point, some things do give) or it detaches from the frame (inherent design issue for some models). There is also the secondary (arguable) perspectives of keeping the old key lock or not, and also fit/aesthetics.
PS. I thought of saying that locking both door and gate (at the same time) is usually an unncessary activity that wears you down in cost, maintenance and utility value ( I have an older post on the arguable need for gate lock). And then having two mediocre quality locks is double the pain - it is better to have just one good mortise digital lock (on the door) and still be cheaper than (
unnecessary) two rims locks on both. We would have then also answered the question by making it moot. These are just my views, and if you have already decided than ripped jeans is important (as opposed to regular jeans), then peace - we live different requirements.
Edits: correcting my typos as usual.
