HKT was quite early in deploying 10Gbps service back in 2015, but it seems to me the adoption rate in HK home is much lower than the 10Gbps service in Singapore, probably because Singapore government started to offer subsidy to the ISPs in2023/2024.

HK ISPs' 25Gbps/50Gbps plan are more of a niche plan for home users now (but good for business users). So I guess it will take time for the mass adoption.

Therefore SG government and ISPs can take some time and wait for the maturity of 25Gbps/50Gbps gears to become more mature (using 50G PON technology) to deploy 25Gbps/50Gbps Fibre Internet services to home, say in 2028 or 2030.

https://asiantelecom.com/event-news/hkt-limited-brings-home-two-accolades-asian-telecom-awards

Meanwhile, a 10Gbps fibre optic network in Hong Kong was deployed by HKT back in 2015. It has now evolved into a fully symmetrical fibre optic network providing advanced high-speed broadband services for over 98% of Hong Kong households, together with 5G mobile broadband technology.

The success of this deployment led to the recognition of HKT by the Hong Kong Government to participate in the OFCA Subsidy Scheme to expand fibre coverage to remote villages in Hong Kong. In this scheme, over 97 remote villages were selected for fibre optic coverage.

As of January 2023, HKT had installed over two million kilometres of fibre optic cable cores in Hong Kong, which helped establish the region as one of the world’s most well-connected cities with the greatest level of internet penetration and some of the highest internet speeds anywhere.

HKT clinched the Infrastructure Initiative of the Year - Hong Kong award for this solution.

China set to lead early years of 50G PON --> but Nokia is also getting success as well in US and other parts of the world
https://www.lightreading.com/fttx/china-set-to-lead-early-years-of-50g-pon

Jaimie Lenderman, principal analyst at Omdia, says the market is seeing initial rollouts of 50G PON this year on a small scale. She forecasts adoption in other Asian markets late in the decade, followed by Western Europe and parts of the Middle East.

It is too early to get a sense of telco demand for 50G PON, especially when requirements vary. Omdia's Lenderman points out that a small telco is probably going to focus on 10G, but for big operators 50G PON is a way to future-proof.

"Additionally, next-gen PON solutions like 25G PON and 50G PON are compelling for operators looking to drive new revenue streams from applications beyond residential services," Lenderman said.

What ever it is, i do not think it is worth getting the 50 Gbps internet at HK$3,888/mth which is S$700+/mth with no real internet world benefit for most home users. I think must be cheaper then everyone will sign even when they do not need it. Too expensive no point signing up for it. Money is very important. That time SH offer Homehub 10G at $88.77, many rushed to sign up. 5 Gbps internet at $29.50 also good business. Homehub Sports bundle $65 also good business.

Please quote your source of HK$3,888/mth first for the HKT Netvigator dual 25Gbps (50Gbps service). If it is business plan, it is not expensive.

As for HKBN 25Gbps service, the price is below HKD 1000 per month or S$166 per month, then there will be some tech enthusiast who are wiling to pay, just like paying close to S$189 per month (Singtel XG-PON) to S$218 per month (VQ MetroEthernet) for 10Gbps service back in 2016.

50000M Fiber-to-the-Home Service HK3,888.
HKD 1,000 to SGD will depend on exchange rate.
In Sg $59/month can get 10 Gbps internet so why sign 50 Gbps at that expensive price. We are better. If 25 Gbps internet at the same price as 10 Gbps internet at $59/mth then of course can sign up la. If HK$300 for 25 Gbps internet then ok. Expensive la.

Can you show me the price for HKNB 25 Gbps? See > https://www.hkbn.net/personal/support/en/accounts-billing#general-charge-items Even on site support is chargeable. HK never win Sg.

Thanks.

FYI, the list price has never been the true price for HKT Netvigagtor. But at least they show the 25Gbps service is at HKD 998, below HKD 1000, which is what HKBN says as well.

Examples:
List price for 1Gbps is HKD698, real promotion price is HKD 168 or lower, for public housing.
List price for 2.5Gbps is HKD818, real promotion price is HKD 198, for public housing.

In HK it is very hard to get public housing for sure, many have to wait for very long and must be very poor and very low income and the standard of living is not good at all. Very small one bedroom only. The service fee is expensive too. Our SH $29.50 for new sign up. Free onsite support if really got issue. I got free installation and activation fee during IT Fair. For them, how much is On-site Checking & Maintenance? HKD400. SH support came and gone so many times. Sometime changed ONR too.

Broadband / Home Telephone / Broadband PhonePer Visit
Installation Fee$680

SH told me if no real technical issue and user reported it then charge. They changed my ONR 3 times and can claim warranty and got it for free. That time Tech confirmed backend got issue so it is free.

All in all, I am not saying SG ISPs are bad, but it is good that we open our eyes to see the progress in other parts of the world.
I understand. Sg ISP is understanding. One day my internet down suddenly and i called in the morning 9.30am, afternoon support came and called backend to switch on my connection and immediately ok. Service Recovery and got bill rebrate.

Very often prompt response and resolution is much more appreciated than bill rebate 😂

It is based on the report of HKBN 25Gbps launch. Take note the service is new.

Your HKT Netvigator list price also shows the 25Gbps service is at HKD 998, below HKD 1000, which is what HKBN says as well.
You never see property. 10000M Fiber-to-the-Home Service is HKD998 which is very expensive. SH $29.50/mth during IT Show. $59/mth if using ONR now = HKD300+ only. In HK still HKD 998.

Better than nothing. This time they will settle it. I was told this time backend senior settled it. Now our ONR speed is back to normal also backend helped to settled. Now it is just installation issue with ONT. Actually our speed already ok. But they insist of changing to ONT and TP-Link for me. I am ok. If down, then it will immediately respond. 9.30am called, 2pm Tech came. Immediate call to backend and immediately got internet. No charge too. My speed is good now.

Sorry for that.

But as I mentioned, The HKD998 is a list price for HKT Netvigator10Gbps, the real price will be much lower.

So please stop quoting the list price already. Thanks.

HKT Netvigator list price vs real price in the market.
1Gbps list price HKD 698 per month, real price HKD 168 for public housing and HKD 198 for private housing
2Gbps list price HKD 798 per month, real price HKD 198 for public housing and HKD 228 for private housing
2.5Gbps list price HKD 818 per month, real price HKD 198 for public housing and HKD 228 for private housing

But I do agree that Singapore 10Gbps plans are competitive now. Still please remember price only went down last year, because of government subsidy.

May be as there may be promotion so cheaper but honestly HKD 228 for 2500M is promotional and is same same as our M1 2500M price at $39/mth. Also must see whether got down or slow speed during peak hours. During IT Show 5Gbps plan at $29.50 which is cheaper than HK 2500M. Now i am waiting for tomorrow installation. I think they just want to make me happy with the service.
