I am seriously considering this route after my current contract expires next year.

The downside is potentially losing our longtime landline number, or having to pay a few dollars each month just to maintain.

5G routers also not common and kinda expensive.

I recommend getting a cheap 4G router (below $200) for a start. Use 4G or 5G SIM which is downwards compatible.
More important is the data volume. Generally, you need min 300GB.

I have both 4G and 5G routers.

For 4G routers, tp-link MR600 ($160) is pretty good. deco X50-4G Wifi 6 mesh, is around $250

deco X50-5G, which I'm currently having problem after the firmware upgrade :
Strangely with Simba at 4G, download speed is at 100Mbps, giga 5G, download speed also same at 100Mbps.
I have to test further, but the deco new firmware keep crashing with giga 5G SIM, and holding on with Simba 4G.

It would seem the Wifi 6 mesh is superior according to speedtest on my mobile phone, whether I use 4G or 5G.

For what I require, I think that's like unobtainium.

Because I also need the ability to connect my home telephone to it and use the calltime on the SIM if we were to forgo digital voice on fibre completely. Also a bonus to receive and send SMS on the same SIM that can be accessed on a web interface.

That's why for now gonna stick with fibre BB+voice for less hassle. I will reconsider if either prices come down and/or data cap increase in the future.

I know... I meant the price of such device that has RJ11 phone port, several RJ45 LAN ports, router (and perhaps AP too) function built into one.

It is upwards of $250 at least. It will take some time to breakeven compared to staying on fibre (with VoIP), unless there is good justification to just make the switch.
