Thank you for your valuable comment!

Well, I remember seeing somewhere that, if my house is not on main UniFi products, I can have a option to choose between other AP (wifi 7). Example, TP-Link Access Point.

Given my situation, my main router is the HB611 from TP-link, was thinking if I should use back UniFi AP or change it to other brands. Do you have any comments to share on that?

Thanks!
The advantage of staying in the Ubiquiti ecosystem is the interoperability between other Ubiquiti devices.

However, you can always expand your options to consider other WiFi 7 brands that you might be comfortable with. Just be mindful of where the bottlenecks might be in your network, such as the 2.5GbE ports on the HB611.

If the HB611 serves you well, then you could consider a future upgrade to the HB811 (a much better value router than the HB611) and then repurpose the HB611 as a secondary access point in the home.

If you do want to dive in to the Ubiquiti ecosystem, then you might have to explore replacing the HB611 with a UniFi Gateway, such as the new UniFi Cloud Gateway Fibre, UniFi Express 7, or the Dream Router 7. My personal preference would be the Cloud Gateway Fibre given that it can push up to 5Gbps with its Intrusion Detection/Prevention. That should allow you room to upgrade to a 5Gbps plan in the future. The only technical bit to consider is bridging the ONR, which seems to be a bit easier with the plenty of guides who have chimed in here.

Whichever option you go for, you can also do a bit of searching online with regards to your preferred ecosystem and see if the performance numbers look good for you. I usually try to read articles and watch videos on different installations to gain a better understanding of the real world performance of these devices before jumping in.

It is 1688. Already out of contract for 10 years, but I don't believe at all this is the reason.

Singtel just sent me this mailer 5Gbps Enhanced plan at $46.90 that comes with the AX5400 WiFi 6 device. My recontract date is Nov 2025 and I'm paying $37.70 a month for the 1Gbps plan.

I read some people here are getting $29.90 with the same speed. Am I eligible for that too?

Wait a little more until around Oct/Nov 2025 and see any better offer. At least try to get the $29.90 5Gbps plan! Don’t think you can go for the $29.90 plan now since you still have more than 7 months contract left before you can recontract.

i am really quite excited about the wifi 7 and improvement it is going to bring. Just had a call with Singtel and in a couple of months final my contract is ending.

They offer me a package of 39.90 with 1 ONT, Router and 1 so call mesh add on for the 3gbps. It seems the M1 one at 34.90 for 6GBP seems much more interesting and lower value.

I wonder service level and performance wise if it can cross match. I think the router provided with dual 2.5Gbos port is a god send. I can finally connect it to my Xiaomi Wifi 7 router in another room.

I contacted SingTel via WhatsApp and was able to recontract to $29.90 5 Gbps plan. The old plan was $39.90 1 Gbps.

It took sometime to decline all the add-ons, they kept trying to upsell, ranging from TV services to Protect eSim Plan ($4.90/month). Have to say no twice, because I guess the reps are instructed to ask customers to "reconsider".

This is the offer I asked them about, same as posts from earlier.

5Gbps Enhanced plan at $29.90/mth (U.P. $95.90/mth)
Comes with 1 unit of Singtel AX5400 WiFi 6 mesh device

Did you ask them about the $29.90 5 Gbps plan? I renewed a few minutes ago because contract was expiring next month.

Just sharing my experience, anyone (whose contract is expiring or expired) can try signing up via the link given from the previous page which says 5gbps for S$29.9 per month. If they reject, reject loh. No harm trying.

As for the Wi-Fi 7 router, the SingTel technician told me if the house have smart devices like smart tv, cctv, smart washing machines, sometimes the 2.4 ghz Wi-Fi could not connect to the Wi-Fi 7 too even though router is tri-band. Hence I stick to my SingTel Wi-Fi 6 which works well for me. Thank you.

The newer WIFI7 usually set the security encryption as WPA2/WPA3-PSK AES as default. Some older 2.4GHz would have issue connecting to it unless you set as WPA2-PSK AES (WPA2-Personal) only. If set to WPA3-PSK AES only, then the older 2.4GHz devices confirmed cannot connect.

I second this post.

In my network, there is a toggle in UniFi that forces a specific WiFi network to 2.4GHz only and with only WPA2 security to maintain compatibility with the newer access point.

For the bundled TP-Link HB810, you can set separate networks for your "regular" (smart home) devices and one with the faster speeds (MLO enabled). However, the user interface was not very clear on how to do this, and it took me some experimentation to figure it out.

For the benefit of those using the HB810s (and by some extension, the HB611s):

  1. 2.4 + 5 GHz
    • I set this as the smart device network, so WPA2/WPA3 password and the "Normal" SSID name
  2. 6GHz
    • I set this as a backup network, so WPA3 encryption and the same "Normal" SSID name.
  3. MLO (2.4 + 5 + 6)
    • I set a separate SSID name (I'll call it "Faster"). It defaults to WPA3 anyway, so there's no need to mess around with the security settings.

With those settings, I have the home's air-conditioning, fans and Apple HomePod mini connected to the "Normal" network, and my computers and mobile devices connect to the "Faster" network.

One way to sort out this issue is to use IoT network or Guest Network, to create 2.4GHz only IoT network with WPA2 encryption.

The other way is to use another older WiFi 6 router or even WiFi 5 router (but need to be still supported by the vendor for security updates).

I use my Asus RT-AX86U for the legacy 2.4GHz clients (not into IoT devices myself).

Then I use my TP-Link Archer BE805 with only WPA3 encryption.

I have Asus TUF-BE6500 with MLO features turned on which will turn band steering and WPA3 encryption automatically. However, Asus will also create an IoT network with WPA2 encryption for legacy devices.

Just like to ask months ahead of (potential) recontract:

Is ONR bridging still doable now?

Is ONR bridging still doable now?

Two ways.
1) Pay SingTel S$10 per month to get SingTel to carry out official bridging. Some users managed to convince SingTel to do it free of charge. YMMV

2) Carry out manually bridging by yourself (not supported by SingTel). Standard disclaimer: proceed at your own risk, YMMV.

3) Bridging methods for both ZTE F8648P and Nokia XS-240X-A ONR here:

For ""IoT"" device, Wifi7 hardware can still be used. Just remove 2.4GHz from the MLO group, then one can set to the older WPA2, and maybe even the mix 802.11 older mode(this optional unless the hardware is persistent in problem). Its not really true and better to take Singtel Wifi6 hardware still, unless one don't foresee changing to a newer phone or computer anytime soon.

Or in many cases, just reuse the older singtel hardware in additional to the included wifi7 router device in AP, in that case they're not ewaste when serving a useful purpose.

Noticed that singtel is pairing their 5g plans with a router that only supports 2.5g. is there a reason why lol

1) Actually the cheaper S$29.90 per month 5Gbps recontract offer is even worse as it only comes with one WiFi 6 router capable of 1Gbps only.

SingTel can probably argue that the ONR has one 10G LAN port for wired device to get the full bandwidth provided by 5Gbps plan.

The main problem is that there is a big gap between HB810 and HB611-SGST. SingTel probably do not want to offer HB810 for the 5Gbps plans due to cost reason or even the cheaper 10Gbps plans.

All in all, SingTel is cutting corners in the bundled wireless router.

2) Starhub has better spread of the router offering.

3Gbps plan: HB410, S$120, 2.5G capable, dual band BE6500.

5Gbps plan: HB710, S$192, 10G capable, triband BE18000

10Gbps plan: mostly EB810v, S$360, 10G capable with extra three 2.5G ports compared to HB710, triband BE22000
