Guys please be more environmentally friendly.

The 20 cents for plastic bag is to discourage you from being wasteful.

Same for water conservation tax to make you save water.

Increase in Petrol tariffs when crude oil is -$37USD/Barrel is to support govt environmental goals...

If it goes to 20 cents, I'm not bagging rubbish anymore. This is pure profiteering. It's not like we're throwing them into rivers and waterways.

Why don't ministers attend conferences virtually? The fuel burnt for each flight can be used to make millions of plastic bags
I already not bagging.
Orange skin? Don’t need bag.

instant noodles packaging? Don’t need bag.
Banana skin? Squeeze into uht milk carton.

Sure, it's going to reduce plastic bag usage.

But can businesses and govt handle the backlash?

Businesses that charge first will lose their customers to those who delay the increase in price.

To be fair the govt will probably standardize the date to start, but it's going to invite the wrath of the voters.

Sure, increase the price lor. See how much loss in popularity can the govt tank.

Singapore only 6mil population.

these people should go to those 1 billion people country and convince them not to use plastic bags first.

Even S.Korea has 52million pop.

Ban all NUS tenures and researchers from driving, and remove all air conditioners from NUS buildings will be most effective in combating global woke warming.

Can add a rubbish collection point at NUS too? I'm happy to bring a pail of rubbish there to throw. 😌

I've had enough of thish BS.
Lets think critically and not be echo chamber.

What's the pt of deterring prastic bag use? What effect of actual value does it hab?

Let me propose alternative.
Supermarkets pay customers 50 cents to NOT take prastic bag.
Lets hold referendum to poll how effective thish will be.

According to a NUS research, near to half of the interviewees threw away 4 plastic bags on the average per week. Charging 20 cents per plastic bag may "change this habit".

So wat does tis smart ppl expect ppl to bag their rubbish at home with?

They brain rot alr?

Haha i already use the instant noodle packaging as a bag, though not a very good one. I keep the bag until i finish my meal. Then the eggshells and other leftover food debris, i squeeze it all into the instant noodle packaging, then tie it up before throwing it down the chute. Sometimes the packaging not tied properly and the debris inside spill out, but i don't really care since i don't have enough proper plastic bags.

Zaobao: 近半受访者每周丢逾四个塑料袋 收费2角可改使用习惯

This is not even a test balloon anymore. When such news comes out, we can be quite sure that it would be implemented. Never mind the sample size/cpmposition, the need to bag rubbish before disposing, or the use of incinerators on most of the rubbish here.

With 66% strong mandate, what is there to deter them?
absolutely nothing. they could even make it $10 per bag. :o

U would notice if plastic bag increase to 20cents or more.....people would
1) throw their kitchen trash without bagging which causing bin holder to be stained
2) see more taking MORE FOC bag from supermarkets.

Using a trash bag is a culture here. Hard to educate the mindset of the people to be so environmentally friendly like Taiwan n Japan lor. Their people r trained n educated since preschool. And at home also have to segregate type of trash. Appliances need to contact contractor (need to pay) to dispose lor. Singapore just illegal throw bulky furnitures and appliances at void deck lor
