That is irrelevant. Your computer isn't using ram as it should be, more like using it as a very fast solid state drive.

Rocket3, you are basically telling him to create a ramdisk out of the unusable memory. I believe ts want to utilize the full 8gb ram in 32bit os. Which is not possible unless you use the PAE switch.
Yes, put the Windows swap file on the ramdisk. This gives much faster performance than having the swap file on SSD or HDD.

TS needs to take note that using the 64-bit version of Windows has its own disadvantages. Like you cannot run programs with 16-bit code.

exactly and hang on a second.....

firstly, you cant create a RAM disk within the OS for the un-addressable memory space since the OS CANNOT address the reserved space of the memory compounded by the BIOS.

the only way to do this is to setup your RAM disk ahead of the OS booting....

Care to list some major modern consumer-grade programs with 16-bit code?

Lets not confuse him. He doesn't seem to know much. Just install that 64 bit windows 7 and you will go worry free. Ignore everything else.

Hi!

I've 8gb ram installed onto windows 7 32bit. but only 2.21gb is usable. how can i activate the remainder?

Am using amd a10-6790k with asus a85xm-a
Just ignore all and follow this for a simple solution...

Boot From the Windows 7 DVD (Step 2)

P.S:

Your system only shows 2.21GB being usable as only 3.25GB is usable due to OS level limitation on 32 bit and further reduced by another 1.04GB for dedicated system memory to your APU's iGPU. The video memory size can be adjusted in EFI settings.

Yeah. Follow this and ignore everything else. Rmb to save your important documents on a thumb drive or external hard disk before doing so. :)

Alright will try booting from DVD.

So I need to burn the iso file to a DVD and get it booted from there

Previously I tried putting it into a flash drive and get it booted from there but also gotten an error message. Thought it would have been similar to DVD.

Let me try burning it to DVD first, and boot it from there.

Thanks for your help guys.
Will update you guys more tomorrow.

I got another solution!
Patch the kernel to hactivate PAE.

More like it...

May cause issues only if driver/application uses old hardcoded address spaces.
Application should be no issue since memory is allocated by the OS.
I have tried this before it works for all except my old tv card with old obsolete windows WDM drivers.

Still, you wouldn't want to run a current daily machine like that right?

I do not recommend the PAE "solution" at all.

@OP: You can do the formatting when you install Win 7.

Dude, forget about PAE or whatever other hacks, just run 64-bit Windows like 90% (this figure is 100% pulled out of my ar$e) of the civilized computing world out there!

And please LOL, stop suggesting hacks that you guys would never run yourself on your own PCs just to show you know about them! :s22::s22: PAE is for super-old computers running Windows XP that die-die cannot switch to a newer, modern OS!

Of course why should I since I have 64bit? :s13:
Make full use of the CPU. :s13:
If you are using Pentium 4 with no 64bit extensions THEN you should consider PAE hack. :s13:
