bro do you roast for espresso or for brewed? I'm a noob and yet to actually try when it comes to roasting but i feel its very difficult to get a good roast level suitable for espresso.

I'm a noob too but I believe the best way to learn is to buy one and try roasting yourself

there are tonnes of videos on YouTube on home roasting.

some just use pan roast. the procedure is almost same, slightest hint of 1st crack turn down temp .....then roast til 20 minutes if possible. some ppl use start of 2nd crack as gauge when to cool the beans.

use oven also can work.


I been using my Genecafe more than 1.5yrs...serving me well....


if u guys looking for good value green beans to buy....I recommend Freshcafe at Stirling road. Jacob is friendly guy...and Mr tan also provide me great advice on roasting coffee.

I have a mypress twist , if u guys interested , I letting go the set at $100.

dun know how to tamp properly. comes with gas cannister

Do you leave your beans in the drum during cooling or you press the E-stop and do external cooling?
I've read the heating element spoils easily. Any problems with yours?

depend on your roasting method. if u roast at high temp after 1st crack...u may need to cool it fast ....Genecafe auto cooling is not that fast so u need to bring out beans , use the basket with hole...forgot wats it's called...and cool it. I cool it fast by spray water on the beans...and throwing the beans up and down using metal basket...need skill....


if u roast it at moderate temp ....then as it near ur point u wish....u can use auto cool and let the beans coast nicely along....this method is Wat I employ now.



Edited: I always go for full city roast I.e dark roast

very fine spray ....the beans are very very hot when u take out from roaster ...when water touch surface of beans it just evaporated immediately...

I say spray...not pour water on beans....use those that ppl use to spray on clothes while ironing ...smaller size...


spraying water finely on beans will cool it fast...of course dun over do it....


there was research that says there is not visible difference in taste whether cool by air or cool by spraying water...but dats for cheem coffee geeks
