Hey , I am in 2 router enviroment.

My setup

Starhub --------> ONT ------>WAN of DIR868 / LAN of DIR 868 ---------> LAN of 87U

Within 87U, I have tried to set as Router or AP both working well.

My guess is wrong than. I have an almost identical setup. 2 differences:

1) I have a switch between my Singtel router and ac87 configured as an access point.

I tried both router and AP mode and both have got the same issue. I initially had 2 AC87 configured as APs but recently removed one to see if it's any better. However, it didn't make a difference.
Tried switching the 2 yesterday and seeing if it works too and no difference.
I have really tried various config and it still doesn't work which is the source of my frustration.

i think i agree.. those that having 2 or more devices have this 5ghz issue. Those using the 87u by itself connected to the ONT have no problem.

I swap back to AP mode on my ac87u whilst it is connected to another gigabit router. Drops on 5ghz is less frequent.

Anyone proficient in setting up my network and whom can make it work or are there any professionals in here? Pls contact me and gimme a quote on setting up my network.

I tried connecting ONT - AC87 - switch - miotv and another AC87 - miotv
Wanted to run network using only AC87 instead of the default aztech singtel router. However, I wasn't able to get the 2nd AC 87 to detect Internet connection. Not sure why and if it would even help.

Any other suggestions?

Not true. I having rt-ac87u as AP and another AP running together connected to router. No issue. Only had 5GHz crash after 40 days of uptime first time. A reboot bring back my 5GHz.

Whether in router or AP mode, as long as I am on 5ghz, I will experience the problem of wifi connected at full bars but Internet connection lost.
This happens on multiple iOS devices and even a asus laptop with the latest drivers.

Legolaz - how fast you will have the problem from the reconnect ? ... within 1 hr ?

Among us .... able to know the hardware/board version ?.... chip problem?

There's no specific timing of how fast it occurs. Sometimes after reconnecting it will be fine for a few hours, sometimes it goes down again within a few minutes.

Not sure about the hardware, chipset but I have 2 sets of ac87 bought a few weeks apart.

Dropouts continue

Thanx everyone so far for all the help and guidance on stabilizing my home wifi with 2 x RT-AC87Us.
I have taken the Access Point out and have been running only 1 unit as the Router since last weekend. I have upgraded to the latest firmware - 3.0.0.4.378_3885. Unfortunately, I continue to experience Interruptions through the day and am at the point where I am losing patience with rebooting the router constantly.
The offending sys log message says
Jan 15 06:01:19 kernel: br0: received packet on eth1 with own address as source address

I haven't had to reboot my home router constantly in years. This is really a poor experience for a seemingly simple premium grade consumer product.
I have written a formal complaint to Asus this morning requesting for a full refund on my 2 units since they don't work as expected and I am out of patience to carry on with this. If anyone has any experience in returning these units successfully, please let me know. Thanx again

I think I will fully support u. Either a refund or give us a unit (can be another model) that works well. My iPhone shows full bar at 5G network but nothing moves. iPhone, IPad, Android tablet, window tablet and Macbook also have issues. Cannot be all these device network card got issue.

Is there any reason you would suspect that your unit could be faulty?

I mean, with a buggy firmware experience, some users could be masked by the impression of bad firmware when there could be a genuine product fault within..

and yes, i support the full refund. :D

I requested for an immediate improvement or a refund yesterday too.
It just got to a stage whereby "enough is enough".
There is only so much patience and understanding that I have.

Fyi, I did a hard reset yesterday(2030hrs) and device was placed in router mode. Everything worked well till 5 mins ago (1155hrs)
Checked system log and there was nothing in the log.
Turned off and on wifi solved the problem but within a few mins it was down again.
Sigh.

which channel of escalation did you use for the request? just asking out of curiosity, because by going through asus sg, nothing will move. :s22:

yea if only asus able to do a refund or swap to the ac68u which has lesser problems and also refund us more in some other way since ac68u is cheaper.
