I do agree with you on this aspect. In comparison, Apple seems to be better at QA and making sure iOS works across the supported range of devices. That being said, Apple also goofed up in some of their releases.
The point I'm trying to make is that 4gb and the notch (controversial?) is not the end of the world. We should look at the whole package rather than continue to bash on specific hardware design decisions.
i think the 4GB is just a convenient scapegoat for people who are too lazy to scrutinise the issue on a more deep level, they just see the background processes being axed and they need something to blame. Huawei is notorious for this kind of background killing problem and they had way more ram.
the pixel notch is just initial knee jerk sentiments. people hated the apple notch too, then they became ok with it. same will happen with pixel notch as time goes by.
