I do agree with you on this aspect. In comparison, Apple seems to be better at QA and making sure iOS works across the supported range of devices. That being said, Apple also goofed up in some of their releases.

The point I'm trying to make is that 4gb and the notch (controversial? :s13:) is not the end of the world. We should look at the whole package rather than continue to bash on specific hardware design decisions.

i think the 4GB is just a convenient scapegoat for people who are too lazy to scrutinise the issue on a more deep level, they just see the background processes being axed and they need something to blame. Huawei is notorious for this kind of background killing problem and they had way more ram.

the pixel notch is just initial knee jerk sentiments. people hated the apple notch too, then they became ok with it. same will happen with pixel notch as time goes by.

In my opinion, as Google controls both the software and hardware stack in the phone, they will definitely make sure that the OS runs properly on the hardware that is available. This is probably the same reason why Apple also went with 4gb in Xs and Xs Max.

The reason why the other manufacturers go with 6gb, 8gb and even more is because numbers and specifications sells in the Asian market. Moreover, being at the mercy of not being able to control the software aspect of their phones, they need to be prepared for the day when Google decides that Android requires >4gb to run.

Google does not have full control on the design of the CPU. Qualcomm is the chip designer of the snapdragons.

Apple controls the HW and SW designs top down. This is the reason why iOS is much more efficient and quicker using comparable specs.

The other manufacturers are willing to pack more RAM because they are willing to sacrifice profit margins.

Google wants to control their profit margins by using 4 GB. This is purely a business decision.

PS: I am never an iPhone user. From financial and technical point of views, I just admire Apple. =:p

He said still not the final one.

I don't see where is the A.I. helping in those shots.

Heavy mottling (water colour paint effect) which seems can be done quickly on Snapseed by lifting shadows.

I am expecting the A.I. will actually improves the sharpness and clarity like what they did for Super Res Zoom.

Hopefully the final version will get released soon because the competition is catching up.
Eh how to use Snapseed to do such magic..?

I don't think its fair to say that the Android will require >4gb, just because >4gb is used on 6gb and 8gb devices. A well-designed OS will fully utilise all the memory available (remember how ppl complained the Windows 10 has low available memory, why do you want memory sitting there doing nothing?)

The problem with android ram is due to design architecture of the system. It is a fact that android apps takes up more ram as compared to iOS.
The JVM that runs the android app takes up huge ram as compared to native code that iOS runs at.

There is no way to mitigate this unless google were to change their whole os.

I guess Google probably isnt targetting the mainstream android consumers. The pixel seems to just be a platform for them to showcase & test their software algorithms etc.

A lot of auntie uncles or even youngsters locally dont even know their samsung phones arent using the snapdragon processor. When discussing the processor of my pixel 2 xl and other makes like oneplus. They can answer "oh same leh my samsung also using snapdragon" i can only shake head :s22:

I would share good things if it was available. Night sight in camera is still disabled. So one of the Pixel new primary feature is still disabled until further notice.

This why you see so little talk about it cause there is no way to enable it without Google flipping the switch on on their servers for it to allow the devices to use it.

Yes Google has such explicit control of Android devices.

There was a fiasco about it recently, until now we don’t turkey know how deep their control goes but being able to remotely control their customers battery setting is quite creepy.

The truth is probably that most major phone manufacturer have it too?

Like how samsung can remotely disable the note 7 in order to resolve problems due to battery explosion. I would be surprized apple, huawei etc dont have these.

Then theres microsoft with their recent windows 10 issues too.

Nexus and Pixel all along is not meant for the mainstream. They wouldn't want to affect the android ecosystem.

It's like what you said, a showcase/preview of their software and hardware before being adopted by the rest of the android manufacturers.

Nexus series was not meant for mainstream.

Pixel series is meant for mainstream.

Otherwise, Google wouldn't abort the Nexus series.

Google is trying hard to disrupt the smartphone profits which is being monopolized by Apple at the moment.

Don't. Don't get him started. He will start his fearmongering again. He's going to cite a laundry list of articles and then repeat his usual refrain - you got no privacy when you use an Android phone; you get 100% privacy when you use an iPhone. Google is monetizing your data; iPhone is not. Yadah yadah yadah.

So, don't.

Which I think Google is hinting at with no mention of the word "Android" in their entire presentation.

I just hope that I got a chance to experience the next-gen (maybe Fuschia?) on my pixel 3, instead of having to pay for a new phone.

You can tell that from the cringey unboxing Pixel with the stars ad campaign. :s13: They're trying to influence the younger generation to pick up Pixel phones.
