17pro looks good but not cheap ah. Saw taobao cost 1k sgd. Wanted to retire my k50u but heart pain to buy.

I was very curious about the 17 pro max and took the plunge. It's honestly a lot of phone for the price paid but like others have mentioned HyperOS 3 is mediocre.

I've been using Samsung phones for years and decided I will be open minded about the trying the Xiaomi 17 pro max.

It took me about a week of tweaking before getting the phone setup to my liking and I'm actually enjoying it now. Battery life is great vs. my past Samsung phones. The rear screen is nice but won't be useful until more apps support it (if ever).

Out of the box yes but can be fixed after changing the notification and battery settings.

In the old days whenever i buy new phone. I will update latest firmware and then clear phone cache and restore to factory default. All these phones will not have problems throughout the years. Maybe xm17 need to do the same thing?

So, whenever you get a new phone, you do a firmware update, then factory reset it.
What about subsequent updates? Do you also do it again?

Subsequent no need. The reason for doing this on new phone is, sometimes when they load the firmware on a new device, it may have some kind of error during loading in factory. So new owner may encounter haywire here and there like hang etc. If there is a hardware issue then this method wont solve it. But i had changed so many xiaomi cn rom phone till now, never seen hardware issue before. Their QC actually quite good de.

I think so far theres only one phone with hardware issue is the mi 11 i think. The first phone with rear lcd screen.

that's interesting. I never thought about phones having error firmware from a brand new phone. Guess no harm trying.

I still do this till today, even brand new routers and to some extent, laptops as well(formatting with a fresh os)

Did you install Google (playstore etc.) and English yourself? (does the English go 100% within the phone?) Also, usual questions, Singapore banking apps, Singpass how?

Yes, I installed all the Google apps. English comes pre-installed but there are some only mandarin apps which I don't use.

Banking apps and Singpass work fine.

Thanks. Well that sounds promising as it seems all stories suggest there won't be a global ROM coming out.
Acid question though.....would you recommend the phone, over say, a similar Honor, Oppo or Vivo offering that's 'global'?
