i just gotten the wavlink 5Gbe usb-c to ethernet adapter. Anyone has it tried on Mac sequoia?

I realised that if i were to directly connect it to the modem (i.e. without any router), it can connect like 1-2sec, after which the internet connection was lost (even though the system still show connected). After unplugging and plugging the adapter back, i saw that the ip address become 169.254.XXX.XXX. If i were to connect it to a router directly, there is no such issue.

Interestingly, if i use the adapter with a windows laptop and connect to the modem directly. It can run perfectly fine.

I suspect there is a DHCP issue with mac sequoia. Anyone has any solution to this? i checked the driver but its like super outdated for RTL8157 chip...

Why would anyone ever need to connect directly? Security nightmare. I use to be able to access share folders of people in my block back in 2009.

For now its more like the house is under renovation and i dun need to bring my super heavy router around when i need to use internet at my new place. i have proper firewall software on my computer. so not so concerning to me.

I am more concern about this with DHCP issue as i bought it mainly to check when the internet is down, whether its my router or ISP issue.
Furthermore, this issue may just showcase that the driver may not be up to date and not fully compatible yet unlike the driver on a windows OS. It's always good to know the existence of any bugs and hopefully can be fixed whether its a small or big issue. just my opinion :)

Idk. I assume u using a MacBook Air, which don’t come with ethernet. You probably need to set a dns manually.

May i know if anyone is using the Intel X710, specifically the Intel X710-T2L with RJ45 ports?

Is it stable?

Does it run hot? It supposedly runs cooler than the X550 and X540.

You can always strap on the trusty noctua 40mm fan and it cools the X550 and X540 like a champ.

i actually got affordable 50mm fans from AliExpress, but do not really like the idea of attaching via cable ties.

There are many ways of doing so. If you want a more sophisticated solution, you can even 3D-print a fan attachment on one end and install it with style.

I am thinking of getting an Intel X710 to connect to my router's 10Gpbs port using RJ45. Should i get:

1. Intel X710-T2L

2. Intel X710-DA2 + SFP+ RJ45 module

I read that the SFP+ RJ45 modules may run hot. Also, there is a possibility of compatibility.

The moment you use a RJ45 transceiver module, the temps will climb. I find it warmer than connecting 2 ends of RJ45 with a Cat6 cable.

I will prefer if I chose the SFP+ route, I just go with DAC or LC fiber. Intel X520 are good choice too, though kind of …..old….

If go the RJ45 route, then just get Intel X550 or X540, then connect over Cat6 cable easily.

If you also looking for 10G switches, those with combo ports provide good flexibility for different deployment scenarios.

I am currently using X540-AT2. It is working fine but runs hot. It is stable though, as my PC casing is well ventilated.

I am thinking of getting another for my other PC. Initially i was looking at X550, but X710 costs slightly more, so i am considering the latter.

Intel X710 need to have 150 LFM with 55 °C or 500 LFM with 65 °C

One more USB4/TB4 to 10Gbe RJ45 Network Adapter from Orico, this may be a better choice to match with Mac Mini if you care about the design. Again it is based on Marvell chipset so you may encounter the same slower speed issues if you use Windows (especially on slower system).

It has temperature controlled fan.

hmm silly qns, how do we go about to update the firmware for x550-t1? i finally bought the 10gtek x550-t1... installed it in my PC but after running speedtest i can only clock 1.8gb download/upload speed... which led me to think if i can try updating the firmware and possibly hit above 2gb speed (currently on MR 3gb gamer plan).

internet plan: MR 3gb gamer plan
router: ASUS TUF-BE6500 (bought from china)

Appreciate any tips from the Gurus here (not sure if its some settings that i need to tweak)

I think you should contact 10Gtek for help.

Intel provides the FW update utility here for Intel branded adapter, but they recommend the user to contact the OEM vendor for OEM brands.
https://www.intel.com/content/www/u...tel-ethernet-network-adapter-x550-series.html

I tend to believe 10Gtek will point you to the above utility as well -- but it is always better to get confirmation before updating the FW since you do not want to brick the network adapter.

ah thanks xiaofan! i tried using that utility and it prompted that there's no updates for the card. let me contact 10gtek tks!

@xiaofan any tips on how i can boost my download/upload speed to at least hit 2.5gb... or is that normal for MR 3gb plan and i should contact the tech support at MR to sort it out?

Check the WAN speed first. You can do that with the built-in OOkla SpeedTest utility within the TUF-BE6500.

Make sure you don't enable Adaptive QoS and Traffic Analyzer in the router.

My MR 3Gbps hits 2.4Gbps on LAN to my Mac and 2Gbps on WiFi 7 5Ghz/160Mhz

FS.com is much more expensive than 10Gtek Taobao.

10Gtek Taobao Flagship store is selling the SFP+ optic module at about RMB 45. You can contact 10Gtek about the compatibility with Xiaomi/Hasivo/XikeStor switches.
The good thing about FS is the local warranty support.
That's the reason for the big price increase over 10Gtek.
Hi @xiaofan,

Between these 3, which one do you like or recommend?

XikeStor SKN-T310GT
IOcrest USB4 to 10G RJ45
GRiS USB4 to 10G

I am considering one for my laptop which has Thunderbolt 4 ports.
Although you ask xiaofan, I would like to jump in and I suggest to save 80% of the money and only go for 2.5G.
My opinion is that all the mobile 10G chipsets are power-limited by USB4/Thunderbolt thus limiting performance with small files transfer. Need a more energy-efficient chip manufacturing tech.
