Haha was wondering if this NIC worth it to get for my desktop PC... https://amzn.asia/d/7Spfq4P

You may get the X540-T2-X8 version from official 10Gtek shop at US$49. It is said that you need PCI-E x 8 slot for Intel X540 chipset. Intel X550 chipset based 10G NICs only need PCI-E x 4 slot and they are compatible with 2.5Gbe/5Gbe but the price is more expensive.

https://store.10gtek.com/10g-network-card/c-55

Taobao price may be a bit cheaper from official 10GTek Tmall/Taobao shop.
Edit: actually the price is not cheaper: X540-T2-X8 is at RMB 389 and X540-T1-X8 is at RMB 299. You may compare the total cost bu yourself. I am not good at finding lobangs.

i am on X570 Aorus Master. I installed X520-DA1 with DAC to BE88U. I do not think X570 is going to obsolete for 10GBaseT.

From the spec it has one PCI-E x16 slot, one PCI-E x 4 (x16 slot running in x4 mode) and one PCI-E x 1 slot. Assumming you use the x16 slot for the graphics card, you can still use the PCI-E x 4 slot for the 10G NIC.

This is a high end motherboard with one PCI-E x16 slot, one PCI-E x 8 slot, one PCI-E x4 slot (PCI-E x16 running in x4 mode) and one PCI-E x 1 slot.

I am using mostly mini PCs (including Mac Mini M1) and laptops. But I bought a low end Ryzen 5 5600G CPU based desktop this year with Asus B550M-A lower end motherboard (Dynacore Invader PC). It has one PCI-E x 16 slot and two PCI-E x1 slots. Since Ryzen 5 5600G has built-in GPU so I install the Intel X520-DA2 based 10G NIC on the empty PCI-E x16 slot. I have also installed a 5Gbe NIC on the PCI-E x 1 slot.

I have shared the internet speed of the three USB4 to 10G adapters I have. The following is the internal network speed (without limited by the WAN speed: 5Gbps Fibre internet, no NAT involved) using iperf3.

Virtual OpenWRT router 10G SFP+ LAN port --> Fibre cable --> Hasivo 10G SFP+ switch --> Fibre cable --> Hasivo 2.5G/10G switch 10G SFP+ port

Hasivo 2.5G/10G switch 10G RJ45 port --> Acer Swift 3 early 2021 laptop

iperf3 server -- virtual OpenWRT router, 10G WAN and 10G LAN port with virtio virtual adapter
iperf3 client: Acer Swift 3 early 2021 laptop (Intel Core i5-1135G7 CPU, 16GB/512GB, latest Windows 11 24H2), first generation of Intel CPU based laptop with USB4/TB4 port.

1) XikeStor 10G NIC (with fan)
Bash:

Download speed -- single thread is not able to saturate the 10Gbe link. "-P4" is better but not good enough. Even "-P10" may not be able to really satureate the 10Gbe link consistently.

Results using the WaveLink USB to 5Gbe network adapter (connected to the USB4/TB4 port of the Acer Laptop).

Upload is more or less okay to saturate the 5Gbe link, but download is not fast enough. Faster laptops will get better results.

The results are much better under Linux -- for this Acer laptop, I have dual boot Ubuntu 20.04 installed. So the test is done on the same laptop but with Linux OS instead of Windows 11 24H2.

took the plunged and hooted the same 1.35W SFP adaptor

works very well my alta labs router and my mellanox cx4 nic. on router side, heatwise it's...manageable? feels like freshly steam milk from a barista coffee machine. probably 60-70 degrees?

on pc side it's quite cool

router side: incoming WAN from ONT and outing LAN to desktop

Hi! I am looking to get route10 router as well. Require a SFP+ to RJ45 10g adapter and came across ur post. May check in the TB link, which option did u get? PS, my chi not good so I struggling. hahaha.

Need to connect ONT to route10. understood that the adapter will run hot but I do not have enough budget to get media converter.

Just got my WAVLINK adapter delivered. I'm actually surprised they delivered it on Sunday.

Just to update, if running on MacBook Pro on battery, it does drain the battery faster.

For those who are interested in 25Gbe home networking, you can refer to the following Youtube video. You may want to read the first post in this thread first.

Another video, with AliExpress and Amazon links for 25G gears. You may find cheaper ones from Taobao.

PCI Express x16 slots, supporting PCIe 3.0 and running at x1

A bit confused, does this mean 10G NIC card with X4 or X8 requirement not able to use? Don't really know much about hardware. Planning to upgrade desktop to Gigabyte X870 EAGLE WIFI7.

This x1 slot will not be able to support 10Gbe NIC which needs x4 or x8.

I guess you will use the x16 slot for the graphics card.

I have not followed up with desktop PCs for quite some time, but IMHO this does not seem to be a good board to go with if you care about 10G NIC.

There are 10Gbe NICs which may work with the M.2 slot so you may still have the chance here if you really need to go with this board. But I have not used them myself.
