wah this place become battleground ah for both camps. I will echo what many others said
  • 7900xtx if you want cheapest and better performance in non-RT games
  • 4080s if you want better performance in RT games
if you want to dabble in a bit of AI/ML work, just enthusiast level ah, then ofcourse go for Nvidia. It's a pain to set up for AMD GPUs. It will work, but you need some workarounds.

Power consumption wise, Nvidia will be slightly more efficient this round as well, check the link below to confirm. ADA is quite energy efficient most of the time.

Then you have to think about upscaling tech, because this is one key battleground the two companies are fighting over. Honestly, Nvidia takes the lead here with DLSS3 as well as frame gen. It is not perfect, but comparing side by side with a 7900xtx, FSR looks more smudged especially when you move about quickly. For reference, i run a 13900k+4090 and my brother runs a 7800x3d+7900xtx. However, i think a lot more games integrate FSR than DLSS. Nvidia supports both, AMD only supports FSR. Because Nvidia are pricks who made it proprietary lol, take it up with them.

Outside of gaming, Nvidia GPU's offers optix and CUDA which can be heavily utilised in editing suites and other programs, so check if your other needs would benefit from this. AMD has openCL but the state of development on that is eh....

Drivers wise, Nvidia usually has a more polished delivery, AMD is slightly buggy at times especially with new games, but this is quite uncommon now. Me and my brother both usually have smooth experience so not much complaints. I have a prejudice against AMD because i used to be a 5700xt owner.

At the end of the day i think your decision depends on:
  • What games you play
  • Your budget (4080s is about $300 or so more i think)
  • Whether you think you would want to use upscaling tech
  • Whether you need to use your GPU for anything else than gaming (cuda/optix/ai/ml benefit)
You can check this site out for up to date comparisons across many games, resolutions, for both fps and power draw: https://www.pcgameshardware.de/Gefo...90-vs-7900-XTX-Benchmark-Test-2024-1442362/2/
nice post... whats wrong with 5700xt? i was thinking of this card before going for 6700xt

I think important thing is take note of the cabling when choosing the Nvidia card... make sure got space for the cable without bending it too much if you are going for the traditional setup instead of the vertical mount ... the 12VHPWR cable quite delicate... as a lot of power goes through it, or else have to look for right angle connector cable preferably that is from the PSU brand itself.. not adapter.. some right angle adapter CableMod has to be recalled.. and refund.. due to persisting issues that the GPU connector is burning up.

RECOMMENDED INSTALLATION OF THE 12V-2X6 CABLE

• BOTH 8-pin connectors must be plugged in at all times to your power supply.
• All connectors must be INSERTED, CLICK-LOCKED and SEATED properly.
• DO NOT bend or apply force to the cable too close to the connector.
• DO NOT bend the cable in any direction once it is plugged into place.

Doesn't matter which one you choose, both enable you to enjoy current games without much issues. Just go for the one you like most. If i were in the same shoes as you. most probably i will go for the 4080S but my wallet will op for the 7900XTX. :s13:

Same but when I was building my PC in Apr 2023, RTX 4080 was at least $200+ more than 7900XTX... in the end just go with AMD since I am quite used to the Adrenaline software, and dun really play that much Ray-Tracing titles for it to be important. :D

My 10 years 860watt psu support 7900xtx.
Sweet sweet.
But looking at the number of years on that PSU... I would just just buy a new PSU to replace it for peace of mind lar.. not saying for sure will breakdown.. but it is old and probably closing to be out of warranty.. or already did.. depending on the brand.

Is good to try new things, give you a heads up. if you get BTF case, make sure those openings/Holes for your back connectors are with rubber groumets. Just tested 2 days ago and I wasn't aware of the bend pins on the motherboard while doing content. I got distracted, It's the 5Volt 3pin ARGB got bend and was touching the metal part of the opening/hole, ended up when I turn on the system, it POPS! lol 🤣 🤣 🤣

@BlackWing1977 good advise about the connection (12VHPWR) but do we have anyone facing this in Singapore hmm. never see anyone panic in this forum.

It is widely reported by all the YouTube IT channels.. so it is a real issue.. that is why they had some improved connector... 12V-2x6, and it is all on Nvidia GPU.. I am using 7900XTX it takes 3 x 8pins so no such worry.

I can understand, but I have yet hear anything in Singapore.
But I hear most of the issues have to do with RTX4090... maybe there is not so many people with it.. so less chance of it happening?? And I heard if it is a direct 1 cable from PSU to GPU might be less of an issue, then some of the issues with it could be poor connection... like not plug in all the way etc..

Then like recently Seasonic with their picture of not bending the cable too close to the connector also.. since RTX4090 is quite wide.... and if casing is not wide enough for the GPU + Cable might result in issues also.

The PNY 4080 Super seems to be the best deal for now at $1408 after discount at aftershocks tiktok shop. (Though it looks dull without rgb)
7900xtx doesn't seem to be getting any discounts locally

I can only recommend 2 types of cables I have used and tested that has the least Vdroop. Cablemod ones I had issues with black screen and much higher Vdroop that I did not want to ever use that again.

Only 2 I would recommend if you want to use 12VHPWR :

1. Seasonic Stock PSU Cable.

They just announced they have come out with the 12V-2x6 version which I think AD may provide once you show your receipt for eligible models. I know mine is eligible but might take a while locally before they announce.

2. FasGear 12VHPWR Cable.

Oh now it's okay lah. When it launched it had the worst gpu support, open game always crash, idle also can black screen. Took them awhile to fix issues. It's an older gpu now, still decently capable.
