I changed this tank for my granny's betta. I noticed the pump seems to be shooting out water quite strong and pushing the fish. Is such tank and pump not suitable for betta fishes???
Btw, the vent holes are for sucking out???

From personal experience, bettas dont do well in tanks with current. Just have to keep in normal container, no aeration required.

I turned off my pump 1/2 a day cos suspect Betta prefers stiller water
When water is still the Betta will blow bubbles

yes, betta live in paddy rice field area where water are shallow. They dont really need air pump but need consistent water change to ensure no illness get to them.

Or that the constant water movement makes it hard for bubbles to be formed ? :o

I had the hang on filters and fish was doing fine but with water movements.. then I got worried about not enough aeration so I got a pump with airstone then there was too much water movement I supposed for his liking.. then I removed the filter... sticking only to airstone

That was when the problem start as when I change water, the fin curled..

Now go back to hang on filter without airstone

betta no need scared not enough aeration ba.

anyway iuf fin curl after change water could be due to water condition too different from tank eg temp, so shock=curl

He just had massive change after I transfer him to a bowl while I re landscape the whole tank. Thereafter I put him back with 80% water change but with water conditioning. thankfully no curling after that

Wah nice big tank for one betta sia. How big is this tank? Planting has always been something I wish to try but also scare to do...

Recently I noticed the suction cup of my tank's thermometer will accumulate milky looking slime, quite gross. Anyone has similar experience??? When I touch it, it will come out in pcs and floating around.

I was experimenting not to turn on my tank's built in filter/pump, see if my betta would look happier in the stagnent water. First few days still ok, but after that he seems to be back to usual moody le... I been trying to take my betta out to a small container with a piece of ketapang leaf, stay there for 3-4 days. Meanwhile I will give the main tank (8L) a good scrub and 100% water change. During this isolation period in the small tank, he seems happier and blowing a lot bubbles wan sia... I do this like every two weeks. I am starting to wonder if I should just keep him in the small container permanently... It's those $5 plastic container from LFS, something for kids fun type...

I have the same slime problem but I just assume it’s good bacteria haha

My tank is 10-12 litres so only slightly bigger than yours

I find it hard to think Betta will be happier in a tiny tank.. more space should be better leh.. or maybe he was happy with the Ketapang leave and not the small tank so try putting leave on big tank?

I also don’t turn on my filter all the time , maybe 8 hours a day and off at night so the Betta can “sleep”
