Advice on Penang

it's really not easy to travel around. passed by the hotel enroute to Bata Ferrangi during my last trip..
hey guys,
wanna know more abt penang as i am planning for my 4D3N trip there this oct.
Currently, i have taken a look at several hotels, but decided to stick to Traders Hotel since its quite near KOMTAR (which i presume is quite a big landmark and i can take a lot of rapid penang buses from there).
Anyway, i will be planning to go Penang Hill, Penang Toy Museum and St George's Church for some sightseeing. Is there any other place that is a die die must go place?
For food, i have done my own research and found out that Gurney drive got this "hawker" place something like those Taiwan food street kind right? Besides Gurney drive, is there any other place for that? Cos i dont really see other recommendations from other websites abt that

Good choice for booking Traders ! Very central location with 3 shopping malls right below the hotel (but it's those olden type with not much things except for the new 1st Ave Mall)
You might want to add in a visit to Kek Lok Si Temple, Nice view from there...
You can also go to Him Heang or Ghee Hiang for their very famous Tambun Biscuit ( Dou Sar Bing) . But I find that Him Heang one taste nicer ... it's at Jalan Burma , somewhere further down Royal Penang Hotel/ Penang Plaza
Gurney drive has lots of food but do be warn that most of them are priced higher than outside and might not taste as good as it caters mostly to tourist.
1 place you might want to check out for nice hawker food is Jalan Macalister and New Lane, just a 3 to 5 min walk from Traders Hotel . Cheaper & Nicer food there.
As for souvenir , there is actually a shop selling magnets, t-shirts and other items at a price lower than those tourist attractions. you have to walk to the overhead bridge near the Pacific's Departmental store (Komtar) and walk towards the Chowrasta Market /Penang Road direction. Once u get down from the overhead bridge you will see the shop (1st shop you see just directly under the bridge) .

I guess u can walk around there.
There is only very few buses traveling around penang.
Bus 101 to 106 and bus 20x , 30x, 40x, 50x ...
I think G Hotel is a good place as gurney food court is around there.
There are many foods.
But i have tried the ice-kacang,and experienced bad experienced.
Stomach ache whole day and food poisoning.
I have stayed @ Hotel Royal Penang and berjaya .
Hotel Royal Penang there isnt much to shop. There is a giant behind the hotel and a kfc opposite.
For berjaya, there is a macdonald and kfc beside it.
Last year I stayed at Bayview Hotel Georgetown for 2 days and paid S$100 per night incl bf for two. Room-wise Ok, quite big but 3 stars standard only. Internet service was very good but not free. The morning buffet breakfast was excellent with many choices. This year would wish to try other hotels like Traders Hotel, Penang Royal Hotel etc. Any recommendations, thanks.
Last CNY i stayed at Bayview Hotel near beach one not bad.

Agreed. As only staying 2 days would prefer Georgetown for easy shopping and eating.

Greets! I will be visiting Penang for the first time and staying at Holiday Inn. What's the best way to get around, particularly if I wish to visit Georgetown?
I read here that the buses can be quite iffy. Are taxis expensive over there?

I dont take cab there.
I took bus.
Just do some reseach, their bus service got less than 10 buses i think.
I stayed at hotel royal penang - there is a giant beside the hotel. opposite the hotel is kfc...
I stayed at berjaya hotel.
Behind is gurney drive, where you can get cheap hawker food ...

Hi, Can advise the room rates you paid for Royal Penang and Berjaya Hotels for 2 paxs. Are they clean and comfortable? I stayed Bayview Georgetown last time I was there. Cheers.
