Advice on Penang

for those flying to penang, just to let u kno

airport taxi to batu ferringhi is officially 75 rm... midnite to 6am add 50%

to komtar and gurney is about 45 (around there)

i took cab from komtar back to airport, the price is 35 (i got 4 asking prices 35, 38, 40 and 45). the cab driver put the meter on, reaching airport, the meter fare is 19.90

IF you're able to stand the sitting around for the bus, Rapid penang from airport fare is 2.70 to komtar

next time i go i think i'll travel lite and skip e cab...

Everyone tells me G hotel, is it good.. or Tune hotel is better? is 4 days 3 nights good enough?

G hotel is good, very good in fact, but ex... if u can get corporate rate like some other fello forumers here then go for it. it's just beside Gurney Plaza, its quite a nice shopping mall. Its along gurney drive area.

Tune hotel is very cheap, it's main strong point is bang for buck, plus it's pretty near komtar, that's the central of penang. Quite a good location.

G hotel is good, very good in fact, but ex... if u can get corporate rate like some other fello forumers here then go for it. it's just beside Gurney Plaza, its quite a nice shopping mall. Its along gurney drive area.

Tune hotel is very cheap, it's main strong point is bang for buck, plus it's pretty near komtar, that's the central of penang. Quite a good location.

Tune hotel not bad, remember around there got one stall selling good dim sum which i suggest u may try it..

it's a 3 star hotel near penang time square.

also pretty near komtar. so, location is good.

there's food stalls just outside the hotel, so pretty easy to find food.

hotel is a bit old, the breakfast buffet is not that fantastic. there's a small swimming pool.

good thing is u can choose rooms that come with internet.

u wanna stay there?

i will be going penang on the next fri to sun via tiger air, for food as well as to Kek Lok Si.

food i am aiming for are, Char Kway Tiao, apom, chendol, sar hor fun, satay, bak ku teh, rojak, wan ton mee, oyster omelette.

is the famous street Pulau Tikus the same as Lorong Pulau Tikus off Jalan Burma (Burma Road)?

any recommendation for food that is the specialty of Penang?

Bak kut teh in Penang, the local says Singapore's one taste better.

Food that i like is their hokkien mee, which we call prawn mee in Singapore.

i did not try all, impossible to treat everything in a mth also

pulau tikus had many food, char kway teow, etc.

the char kway teow had the option of duck eggs, at a slightly higher price

my fave at penang is definitely chee cheong fun

its at macallister st.

opened only in the morning.

few stalls down, theres another kopitiam, with an elderly hunchback uncle selling kway teow soup.

in between, yes in between this 2 kopitiams, theres a push cart that sell their version of fried carrot cake, called char kway kak, or chao guao giao.

the chee cheong fun and kway teow soup is a MUST try

I tink the best is u know what u wanna eat, then u go to the specific place to eat.

But most places are decent enough, just avoid gurney drive foor market

going to penang.. but jetstar onli got evening flight.. means will reach there 7+
airasia got morning flight
hmmm airasia $102 but is it including the baggage check in package or carry on only? it did not state on the website..
if jetstar carryon only $70, with baggage $99

When my wife and me when to penang for 4 days, we just had our own carry on

unesco sites - just grab a map from the hotel and walk, u're already near it.

kek lok si - either take taxi or walk to komtar and take rapid penang (there's a bus interchange at komtar)
U201, U203, U204,
U206, T306 and U502
u can ask the bus driver to tell u when to get off - it's a very famous attraction so they will know...
