Some hotels have early payment scheme and/or require you to prepay before you arrive. That's also under 'pay at hotel'. Pay at hotel doesn't necessarily mean yoh pay cash/credit card when you arrive at check in.

Isn't "pay at hotel" meaning you pay upon check-in? If not, what is it?

I booked before at agoda.
When I choose "Pay at hotel", they didnt charge my cc ...

During the hotel check in, they asked me to make payments.

Just checked-in at my 2 Agoda reservations over the weekend. One was paid for in advance. The second was paid for at the hotel as per the booking. Hotels may also collect deposits on top and over the booking. I paid via credit card and cash respectively at the hotels. In Malaysia, a tourism tax of RM10 is also payable per night.

Exactly, I would expect payment upon check-in at the hotel and you pay the local currency of that country.

Hi guys,

I have chosen a pay at hotel option, but the amount was charged on my debit card 3 weeks before the stay.
Is this correct?
If that's how pay at hotel works, I might as well choose pay now or pay later :s22:

you may want to call agoda or email them ...
normally they would reply within 24 hours ...

Was it a charge or a preauthorisation?
Some merchants do that for debit cards/credit cards
After full payment is settled it will be cancelled

i'm fine with them charging early, but if the counter staff ask me to make payment when checking in, then very troublesome, have to show them they already charge to my debit card(not deducted yet till date) etc :s22:

preauthorization is a hold on the full amount
in the case of debit card it will result in current balance and ledger balance showing different amount in your bank account
meaning to say money haven't deduct but u cant use that amount

In the agoda website there is an option to choose currency at the top right of the page. But not sure if works though got never tried before but you can test it out and see.

Besides choosing the local currency, there is also option to pay at selected hotels. You need to go and try out on Agoda website.

Normally is "pay now" or "pay later"
somehow for hotels in japan, when we have chosen "pay later" the price reflected was about 8sgd (ie: $119 vs $127) more expensive than the rates we see, when we make the booking 3 weeks back ...

"Pay at hotel" is another choice, however only valid for few selected hotels.

Whenever you choose "pay later" - the rate will definitely be higher than the current rate that you see on "pay now".
